Default Borrowing wheelchairs at airport?

Can you borrow/hire wheelchairs at the airport? My son wil be just shy of 4yrs old cant walk long distances. (medical problem) He is almost to big for the stroller that we have, (if it lasts until then). No way can I carry him, drag my 5yr old and hold all the hand luggage. A special needs pram will probably be too big... If you can hire a wheelchair, do you need a medical certificate or something? Do they meet you at the door of the plane like with pushchairs?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about hiring, but when we went to Australia in Febraury there were plenty of wheelchair transfers on our connecting flight in Dubai. Just ring the airport i am sure they will help

Speak to your airline. They should be able to arrange something at both ends of the flight and during transfers. They may also need to know in case of problems on the flight itself.
