Booking flights for the jump - luggage allowance
Are carriers more lenient with people who are emigrating with luggage allowance?
Is it worth going directly to a carrier (over phone) when emigrating to get additional luggage allowance etc? Or just book via skyscanner or another populate "get it cheap" website and then ringing after?
Experience would be appreciated, looking to book our flights for early January and currently Singapore Airlines (direct with carrier) for £2005 (two adults, 1 child and 1 infant)
Thanks
Andrew

Singapore Airlines have their additional allowance which they don't publicise on their web site. You should contact them to enquire about the T&Cs and ensure that your ticket is updated to reflect the agreed allowance.
Don't book first then ask later. Some airlines will have prohibitive fees for extra bags, others have very reasonable extra bag policies. You need to look into the excess baggage policies of the carriers flying the route. If you're flying to SYD for example BA and Virgin Atlantic offer great rates for taking a lot of bags. Qantas on the other hand, and true to form, will charge you an arm and a leg.

Generally no, there's no reason why they should be.

At the time we moved, I remember that BA charged about GBP30 per extra suitcase which is great value, whereas some others charged per kg and would have been extremely expensive.
You definitely need to look into it before booking and factor into your price comparisons. Most do not do anything special for migrants, Singapore is the only one I know does do.

You can also get flights through IOM, although you don't get as much choice, they can be cheaper - http://www.iom.int/cms/en/sites/iom/...ion-fares.html

Singapore Airlines confirmed today via email that they do the double allowance for people migrating with an non-validated permanent residency visa for Australia.

Qantas to a migrant baggage allowance (http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/migrant/gb/en) but you need to have a visa that hasn't been validated.

I suppose one could validate by flying over on a different carrier and then fly SA for the real move.
