Yes they do. The only problem is that if you have lived in Australia for less than 25 years your pension might reduce proportionately when you are no longer living here.

As a matter of fact *some part* of many private, company pensions isn't indexed - because of government meddling over the years. I'm talking about the minimum guarantee part of a contracted out company pension: wasn't it Barbara Castle who was responsible for that little doozie?

What some people fail to realise is that it isn't just the basic state pension that is frozen. When a company pension was unavailable an employee HAD TO contribute to SERPS (State Earnings Related Pension) instead. It was supposed to be the equivalent of contributing to a private pension, but provided by the state. But this is frozen as well, so it doesn't replace an equivalent private pension. The UK government might have an argument for freezing the basic pension, but freezing the SERPS pension seems totally unreasonable, especially if you agree that private pensions should not be frozen.
