Bloody nectarines.
Went to the fruit shop today.
I like nectarines so picked a few up.
Got to the checkout and, too late, realised that 4 nectarines (tiny ones) had cost me over $11
I had only let my guard slip for a moment.....it won't happen again

Out of season tasteless ones straight from the cold store. Don't worry they'll be rotten tomorrow if you don't eat them now

Nearly got caught out by a big bag of cherries one year, to the tune of $25! You have to be vigilant at all times when shopping for fruit.

Yep same here, nectarines are my favourite fruit, went to get some today but wasn't going to pay $10 a kilo for them. Its because its the beginning of the season, after a few weeks they should come down in price.

Re: Bloody nectarines.
There were several different types and some were around $9 a kilo.
My fault really as I did not look carefully enough and it was only after paying for a basket of fruit that I realised
Bought some at the same shop the other day for less than half the price.

Went shopping today and paid £7.03 for 6 bananas, 12 plums, 12 nectarines, 8 Golden delicious apples, 1 Honey mellon and 1 pineapple. I thought fruit would be cheap?

It doesn't pay to deviate from your basic fruit types: apple / orange. Derivation only leads to expense.

Oh my God! Is this the new "price of a lettuce" thread?
Best thing to do Grayling is to not bother eating fruit or veg. It's expensive and will only make you healthy. Save money and eat at McDonald's or Hungry Jack's.

Same here, it can be expensive to cook your own meals if you want more than pasta.
I sent hubbie for an avocado the other day and he paid $2.50 for it! He has not learnt to just change meal plans depending on the ever fluctuating prices.

I was only half jesting. It's insane that healthy options cost so much more than the crap that comes from the fast food joints. It's less expensive to buy a bag of Doritos than it is to buy a cucumber. What kills me is that it's all grown here!

Re: Bloody nectarines.
What bugs me most is the way prices change from day to day and, seemingly, arbitrarily.
I went to buy a slab of beer yesterday and it was marked at $47 in one part of the store and at $39 in another part of the same store.
When I queried this I was told I could have it for the $39.......when I looked at my receipt for the same beer last week it had cost me $47.......I wonder what I would have been charged if I had not queried it?

checked in Asda today after reading this thread and 4 nectarines were £3. My family have fruit farm in Griffith NSW and so much fruit is thrown away due to imports its disgusting! government could do more to support domestic fruit suppliers and get prices down, with climate range across oz there should be no out of season!

Hi,
Three weeks ago, 1 day after getting of the plane and obviously wet behind the ears I bought some Australian garlic at $30 odd dollars a kilo, nearly died of shock. It was rubbish stuff too, looked as though it was rotting. Found out later that the price of normal garlic is a quarter of the price of that. Damn, they must have seen me coming.
Not sure about the cost of beer as we bought a bbq and got a free case of beer with it. Bare Foot Radler (or something like that) wasn't bad considering I'm not a fan of beer.
