Bit of a gamble...
The packers were here yesterday so our wordly possessions are already on their way to Melbourne.
Our 457 visas haven't been granted yet :scared: Our house sale is scheduled for this Friday but could potentially be delayed until the end of October :scared: We fly Monday :scared: Don't you just love it when a plan comes together? |

If you are thinking of getting a holiday visa, be careful that you dont apply for the holiday visa just after the 457 gets granted, because the 457 will then be invalid :scared: A new visa always overrides any previously issued visa's whatever type they may be. Then you'll be up the river without a paddle :D Congrats with everything anyway and good luck, you are definitely a lot braver (or more stupid :D ) than I would dare to be. |

I'm in Melbourne already working on the 457 visa. We got them 2 days before we flew, which was nice. The house sale is now ready for completion and should go through this week if everything goes to plan (fingers crossed). Melbourne itself is how I remember it, very nice. We are on Collins Street in Liberty Tower with views over the docklands and sea. Would be good to meet up with anyone in Melbourne soon - when my brain morphs back into a proper brain, rather than the current jet-lag-induced Swiss cheese that it is. |

Will you have to go offshore then for your visas to be granted ? |

Cheers We are going out on a 457 because I don't have the qualifications as a sales executive/director of a decent sized company to apply for a PR visa  but after 2 years in Oz its no problem. |

The company sponsoring you on a 457 has need of your skills here...very soon or even now let them know you want an employer nominated visa. The 457 is a great visa in my opinion, it should only be used for those people who are very settled in their own home countries and have no intention moving long term - for every company who brings in a 457 person who really intends a long term relationship then do a company sponsered visa PR. We need decent agents working for companies explaining the differences between 457 and Employer nominated and costs and the relationships and timing. So again I ask why are people selling houses to come to Aus for what might be a 4 year stint that could possibly end with a 28 day limit on leaving the country? |

after 2 years I have work experience in Oz etc etc. I thought it was different myself. As soon as you arrive, start the application for PR, but my migration agent says otherwise. Don't worry, I will be checking it out as soon as I get out there. |

Secondly, we don't really like the house or the area we lived in so we would have moved anyway. We've been to Oz before for a year and rented our house out but it was a bit of a pain - rent not paid, rooms sublet etc. Plus selling the house keeps our options open, like maybe we'll move on somewhere else in the future. We don't know how long we'll stay here for. We will probably apply for PR pretty soon (I asked my company and they are willing to get involved one way or another). |
