We're shitting bricks at the thought of taking such a huge step with him and having no support on the other end.

For the first time, i'm actually having serious thoughts about moving at all. Was thinking of Perth. I suppose all the recent negative posts haven't done much for my enthusiasm.

Just do it and find out....Your son is the ideal age! We've been here a month and find it fantastic. I am in figtree, NSW though. You will find negative posts about anywhere in Australia on this site! Some people love Perth some don't. It wasn't for my family, but that's not because we didn't like it. We just wanted to live on the east side. We all want different things out of life.

I take my son to the beach everyday after pre-school and he loves it. Couldn't do that in Wales because most of the year it was too cold! He's just started swimming lessons too which he was never really bothered about in the UK. Our life has changed, but definitely for the better. We have no family out here so our support base is pretty non-existent at the moment. I became ill on my second week here and spent 4 days in a local hospital!! It was awful without my family to rally around, but we got through it. We've made some friends and our neighbours have been so kind.

You won't know until you make the move. :)

Thanks for all the encouraging words people. :)

I'll let my wife read this tonight, she's been a bit down lately.

our (or my) biggest fear?

leaving the security of this life, job/house/family etc, to face the unknown?

but, if we dont try it we will never know. half excited/half crapping it :o

our children are 8 and 4, so not a bad age for them to go over.
go for it.
xx

Go for it now, we're trying to move with a teen, oh god help us  However my biggest fear is, we go and she's totally miserable, she will never ever forgive us, wish we'd done it when she was one. :D

I'm in the same situ - 12 and 14 yr olds. Both refusing to move at the moment. They keep phoning their Nan to see if they can stay with her. I have had to tell them that they must give it a try and if it is really bad they can move back when they are 18;) I really wish we had gone when we first talked about it 10 years ago...

Someone I know had this problem a few weeks ago, but with a kangaroo! It jumped out of a ditch at the side of the road and luanched itself over the car almost rolling it over in the process! By some miracle the kangaroo survived to see another day :) Even scarier this was in th emiddle of a massive town!
