Post Big4 in Melbourne

Hi all,
has anyone had experiences (good or bad) staying in any of the Big4 parks in or around the Melbourne area?

We will probably need to validate our visa by year end (to due the house not selling:curse: )

This looked like the best way (read cheap) of spending a couple of weeks without breaking the bank for the 5 of us. (2 adults, 3 kids of 6 and under).

If there are any recommendations or alternatives to Big4 your advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Nigel & Deb.

We stayed in 3 BIG4 parks on our reccie in NSW and Queensland and they were super. They were good value and had super on site facillities for the kids.
If you join Big4 you can save yourself some discount but i didn't know this until we reached the third place and by then it was pointless! Typical!

Many thanks for the quick and detailed reply Buzzy Bee.. Looks like you had a great time !

How did you find the surrounding area of Frankston..? I've seen it described as 'less than desirable' on some threads.
I guess it's what ppl are used as to what is desirable or not....

Hi,

We've stayed at the Coburg and Frankston Big4's which were both good bases for exploring various areas. If you are spending some time in the city I would suggest you try and stay closer for that period of your stay.

Yes, Frankston's rough image sticks. North Frankston has much of the commission housing, smaller blocks and has some busy roads.

We rented in Mt.Eliza and found S.Frankston which borders Mt.Eliza lovely. We ended up buying in S.Frankston. Frankston town centre looks tired as a newish centre opened. There are nightclubs and pubs so you do get the associated trouble with those as you would do anywhere. Frankston Council plan over the coming years to improve it dramatically. See their website for details.

Oliver's Hill is one of the pricey area's and there are some lovely large leafy blocks off of Humphries and Overport Rd. It's worth checking out and making your own mind up. Family facilities and primary schools are good too.

Caroline

Thanks for the feedback Caroline. I think we will probably stay bayside for the trip so the children can go to the beaches.
We will possibly go to the CBD to make sure there are enough of the right employment opportunities and talk to a few agencies etc...
