We am moving to Perth next year my girlfriend has family at Ocean Reef we would like to move close to them but its a bit expensive in that area, any ideas of suburbs close buy that might be worth a look.

Iluka is more expensive than Ocean Reef!!!
Local areas are Heathridge, Joondalup,Currambine, Kinross, Duncraig and connolly.
Prices vary from one suburb to the other

It will totally depend on your budget, work out what you want to spend and and that will reduce your options dramatically.
Id basically get a map, put a ruler horizontally across the Mitchell Freeway and try and get as far south as you can on it towards the city for the money you have, ideally west of it but one or two suburbs east of it can make a big difference to the $'s.
If I were coming over now and had say $400-$500K to spend and needed a 3/4 bed place then id be looking around Greenwood,Hammersley, Warwick, Duncraig etc, relatively large blocks for the $'s, older slightly less "housing estate" type feel than some of the more northern suburbs, a fair few trees/parks dotted amongst streets, close to the freeway and train line for easy access to the City, quite close to the coastline. Some good opportunites to renovate the properties and turn them into exactly what you want for not a great deal of $'s.
In my opinion these suburbs are still slightly underpriced, given their locations and proximity to what ive mentioned above i'd long term id expect them to do quite well.

I would agree with this post 100%. If you enjoy socialising in bars and clubs you need to make sure you are near the train line otherwise run the gauntlet of getting a cab !

It is a bit further out but maybe you should consider Queensland.

Agreed. I was given Greenwood as a tip before we came out here and it would have been a good investment and handy for the station. I think $500K in Duncraig might be a squeeze.

True, although maybe those youths on the rampage there the other day might cause a few people to think about moving on and there could be a bargain to be had

Im starting to think I dreamt it as I cant find anything on thewest or perthnow about it! pretty sure it was either end of last week or over the weekend and was something like 100 youths out of control at some party and went on the ramapage when the police turned up, it was on a Channel 7 news bulletin one evening.

Perths so quiet and boring and everyone's asleep as soon as it gets dark it cant be true

EDIT:
Found this on Perthnow
"Bottles thrown at police outside party | PerthNow
REVELLERS threw bottles at police and at least two people were arrested at an
out-of-control party overnight."

But the link to the site is dead.... something suspicious me think....

There was something in the news at the weekend about an out of control party in Duncraig. That could have been it?
