Best Maternity Hospital in Perth?
I hope this thread isn't too much of a long shot?
Now it looks as though we aren't 100% that we are headed for Bunbury I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good Private Ob/Gyn and Hospital in Perth? I had already been referred to one in Bunbury.
When I called St. John of God in Murdoch the receptionist basically laughed at me and said 'Private Patients in Perth book when they are 6 weeks pregnant, not 17 weeks'. Oops
I'm going to be in Perth in March, baby due in May. I know I have to get this sorted now. It's a tough one as I'm a high risk pregnancy and really don't know where to start!
Any ideas would be fab.
Thanks in advance

We just saw our local GP up till 36 weeks and he was great. We then switched to the hospital doctors for the last 4 weeks. They were all very good, though we never saw the same one each time we went. They also like you to see the consultant and make sure that one of the visits included seeing him.
The public hospital service was fantastic. The midwives and doctors were all amazing.
In the Northern suburbs of Perth; Glengarry is a private hospital and Joondalup also has a private section. Friends have been to Glengarry and said it was "nice", but other than a private room and some fancier food I'm not really sure what you'd gain.
Try here for loads of WA related pregancy stuff http://www.wa.bubhub.com.au/ it has all the info you should need; including a forum where you might get your questions answered a bit better.

My good wife is a nurse and midwife. She worked at the Mother and baby maternity hospital in Perth - it was closed a few years ago.
Our second one was born in Perth 5 years ago, my wife planned for a birthing centre delivery, by the time she was ready to deliver - the birth rooms were all occupied and our daughter was born on the nurses coffee room floor .... all went well.
We lived in the Northern suburbs of Perth, my wife worked at the Glengarry hospital as well.
I asked my wife where she would go for maternity service support.
She reckons you should contact Joondalup hospital services. Joondalup is a part state / part private hospital. It is staffed in the main with Brit healthcare workers. The hospital is a modern state of the art hospital - it is a flagship model of services to be introduced across Oz .... i.e. state / private funded healthcare services.
Good luck and keep us posted wth your progress

Thanks so much Odaat,
I really appreciate your help.
Did I mention that due to severe uterine tear during first section I am now classed as high risk and have to have another section, hence my concerns about not just going anywhere. Totally envy your wife and the coffee room floor scenario, I tell you that would be my ideal, I'm not joking!
Thanks so much, any other advice, even if you think trivial would help.
Take care,

Hi
Wherever you have the baby, if there are complications during delivery you are likely to be transfered to KEMH (king Edward Memorial Hospital) which is the specialist obs one. You may even find that as a high risk case your doctor may want you to deliver there anyway. You can book in there as a private patient (depending on your doctor) and the rooms are mainly single with their own bathroom. There has been some negative publicity about it recently, but if you have your own doctor this would not be relevant.
Hope this help!

I deliberately omitted the KEMH for the very reason you mentioned plus my wife worked there ....

I think it was regarding inexperienced doctors making bad decisions, and a general lack of communication. I believe the hospital has the highest rates of complications etc during deliveries but as this is where the high risk patients generaly go, these figures can be a bit misleading. Certainly I had both my children there and was happy with the level of care I received, and as I said, if you have your own doctor you don't have to worry about who is "on" during your delivery. The nurses were often agency ones (mostly from UK)and I think that's true of many hospitals.
