The best future for our kids. Australia or UK?

I've never really understood the weather argument either. I like the heat, but weather is something that is totally out of our control (unless you are a hard-core MMGW advocate) and is not worth worrying about. The weather is a bit more consistent here, so you can plan events with relative confidence, but that's it. I never found UK weather to generally be too cold, or too wet. In fact, the majority of the time the weather was grey overcast with mild temperatures.
As Billy Connolly said, there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.

If there is a little fledgling culture and sophistication in my part of Australia it's well insulated by a massive blanket of sports obsessed, beer swilling tradies in singlets who are proud of the fact they've never read a book.
Re the weather - went to the chemist earlier, a 15 minute walk - for that I daubed sun tan lotion over my arms and legs, ears, neck and face. Put on a hat and set off into the sweltering heat. Oh for just slinging on a coat and scarf!

Walking is too English.

Reading all the above posts, in Melbourne we don't seem to be as affected by the negatives mentioned here. Just an observation.

Yup, true, but most of them have to go elsewhere to make their mark, many of them only call Australia home but dont actually live here! That's the whole point - small pond, the world is much larger and richer in experience.

The overwhelming majority go to either the UK or the US. Peter 'I still call Australia home' Allen lived and died in America with a broad American accent.

Australia suits us better and this is one of the reasons.
