Agreed, only problem is that Westpac's ATM coverage is not that good in certain areas and they charge a largish fee for use of other bank terminals. Problem is that the bank with the best ATM coverage is the worst bank ... Commonwealth .. by almost "universal acclamation". Westpac also have a migrant banking department.

I've been with the 4 major banks in my 26 years here. I reckon they all have major pitfulls. However lack of ATM's isn't one of them, because every major supermarket provides cash out free of charge, plus it's a far safer to withdraw in a supermarket than in front of a high st ATM.

All the banks are crap, charge like wounded bulls at the slightest provocation, and seem to go out of their way to have interest deadlines that don't suit, like Monday afternoons.

If I were a newcomer to this country, I would go for a bank that charges the least fees, someone Like Bendigo Bank in Victoria.

It's so damn easy to get a housing loan here, that you can change banks to suit when your in the Market for a house. The leverage you get for a deal at the house purchase stage is incredible.
