When looking at tickets, price a SYD-SYD or a MEL-MEL round trip and purchase the domestic hop to either of the cities separately. The ticket will invariably work out cheaper than booking CBR-CBR

There is a cheap season, it is May/ June.

I returned from Sydney to Heathrow on Thursday on the Quantas Airbus A380.

I would recommend flying on this plane, very quiet and reasonably comfortable. There are only 4 or 5 airlines fly the plane though.( Quantas, Singapore, Emirates and I believe Lufthansa)

...and Air France.

Feb is also a cheap time to go to UK. And roughly mid-Sept to early December.

Personally, I just go for the cheapest. They all have seats these days and the difference between economy on one carrier to another is negligible.

Is the A380 available on the PER-LHR route?

No A380s flying into PER. But you could get one on Singapore or Dubai - LHR legs.
