I think we'll fly Singapore...and take the fight which leaves us in Transit at Changi for 12 hours, just to break up our flight a little.

Apparently, they have transit hotels where you can sleep for a few hours.

Has anyone used these hotels or the shower facilities at Changi?

£350 to Melbourne ?? Where are you flying from cos £350 doesn't buy much aircraft fuel. Seriously though my OH is looking the get back to the UK for a family visit soon...mmmm..China Airlines  I'm sure they are as safe as any other carriers :)

They lost a 747 (250 or so killed) in 2002...cause of crash was a questionable bit of repair work on the fuselage causing plane to disintegrate in mid-air. 1998 - lost an A300 (and another 200 passengers)....crew pressed wrong button which led to crash. Another fatal crash (1994?) was due to pilot taking wrong course on take-off and going into side of mountain.

The fatal event rate for China Airlines is more than 3 times that of other major carriers.

Fark!!. And not a water bottle laden rose-water smelling nutcase in sight. Are the bin-laden family major shareholders?

Hi, we used the transit hotel on our flight back from Perth to the UK. Slept very well. The rooms are the size and standard of a UK Travel Lodge or Premier Travel Inn. They are not very big but have everything you need, including en-suite shower, towels, soap, television.

As I said, we slept very well.

I used my mobile phone as an alarm clock. Can't remember whether they asked us if we wanted a wake up call when we checked in. In fact, I can't remember if the room had a phone or an alarm clock radio in it.

But if you go on the website for Changi airport and then click on the transit hotel link, you get their email address. You can email them and ask them. Otherwise, take a small travel alarm clock with you :).

If you want to minimise/avoid jet lag then alcohol is a big no-no. Lots of water, that's what you want ! ;)

shower facilities are great and you are supplied with a towel too. Really refreshing, plus you can take afree city bus trip whilst in transit.
