Been In Oz a Year Today!!!!
Today (28th Aug) is our 1st anniversary of being in Oz. We can't believe how quickly time has gone and what we have managed to achieve in that time. When we first arrived everything seemed a little daunting and a bit scary. It was hard work and very stressful getting here and then trying to sort everything out. Somewhere to live on a more permanent basis, buying a car, getting kids settled into school and getting work. We have now purchased our own house which is far bigger and better than anything we could of afforded in the UK and we love it. There is so much space for everyone to do their own thing as well as get together as a family for meals etc. The girls are more than settled into their school and have some great friends. We've had birthday parties, sleep overs and lovely get togethers with friends and work colleagues.
Yesterday we decided to mark the occasion of our anniversary because today being a Monday the girls were at school. We took the train into the city on the $2.50 savers card and had a walk along the Yarra and visited the craft market that was going on. We then booked a Yarra river cruise and spent a lovely hour and a half going up and back down the river. The view of the city as you're leaving it behind is fantastic and the sun shone, which made things even better. We got off that and wandered around a couple of galleries, one of which was showing some aboriginal art work, very interesting. We then hoped onto another couple of trams and went to the famous Lygon Street and had a lovely Italian meal. The girls were made of fuss of by the Italian waiters and they had a ball. After that we purchased an ice cream and wandered back to the trams to get back to Flinders Street station. It was a long day but a very enjoyable one and we had a moments reflection standing in Federation Square knowing that it was a year ago that we did that for the first time.
To anyone of the verge of coming over ..... yes it's hard work, yes it's stressful and at times you'll wonder if you've made the right decision ...... BUT it's bloody worth it once you're here and settled!!!!! We don't regret our decision at all in making the move and know we've done the right thing for us as a family unit. Yes our family and friends are a long way away but it's only a plane journey away and not impossible to see them again. We're half way to getting our citizenship and we're hoping and praying that they don't change to rules and make it a three year wait. Good luck to anyone who is about to make that giant leap and hope everything works out as well for you as it has for us.

Thanks for the congrats everyone!!! Sasbear - you lucky things ..... good luck with the citizenship! It is nice to hear how everyone has settled in and know that not everything runs smoothly. You do need to keep a fairly broad outlook on things and then you'll muddle on through a lot better. Thanks again everyone and good luck to you all as well.
