Been offered a position in Werribee
Hi everyone
Ive been offered a position in Werribee, but Ive heard this rumour that it has a distinctive odour attached to the area!
Therefore, wanted to know if anyone can suggest an area relatively close by (but not down wind) that will be a good place to live for a couple and two young children. Obviously schools are important.
Any information about the area would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Karen

Hi Karen,
Not sure what smell has been suggested to you, but didn't notice anything when we lived near by. I think there may have been a sewage farm in the area many years ago.
Depending on property style / budget, there are lots of choice in the area and neighbouring suburbs.
Williamstown - My preferred
Altona, nice on beach side, bit industrial in other places
Newport, seaholme ok
Point Cook - large scale new development, opinion is divided on schools though, be careful and check yourself
Sanctuary Lakes - Resort based development, set around golf course. This is where I lived for a year. Personally found it a bit soulless, but otherwise ok.
Hope this helps a bit.
Can I also suggest you take a look at http://www.britvics.org

Re: Been offered a position in Werribee
Have lived in Point Cook for 6 months and have never noticed any smell from Werribee.
I wouldn't live in Werribee, Laverton or Hoppers Crossing.
Point Cook is the nicest area out there (includes Sanctuary Lakes) and you would have an easy commute but if you don't like new houses it's probably not for you.
If you want closer to the city, Williamstown is nice but pricey, otherwise Kingsville, Yarraville, Seddon are all good too.

Consider also Geelong (though probably not the 'burbs to the north - Corio, Norlane, etc); with the rest of the ring road opening in the next week or two you could probably live in areas such as Highton and be in W'bee in half an hour to 40 minutes.
Lots of nice schools in Geelong too ... sayest I as a resident of said city ...
Good luck!

Geelong was my first choice, but I have been successful with my job applications.

Hello Karen
I would stick with Geelong. Lots of character, good nightlife, etc. Not to mention fabby neighbours! It is about a bit of a commute though on a boring stretch of highway. But if you dont mind that then it is great
Maybe consider Bannockburn or Lovely Banks too, both very nice.

I meant to say Geelong was my first choice but I have been UNSUCCESSFUL with my job applications for that area. So I had to start looking further afield.

Here's an old saying which I quite though:As smelly as a Werribee duck
Or as one of my workmates said to me the other week when he had messed a job up "I am in as much shit as a Werribee duck"
BTW I have only been there once, didn't smell a thing and it seemed a nice place to me.
