beaches bayside or gold coast?
Hi there
Am at the stage of chosing final destination for migration, know we want to be south of brisbane and we were quite set on redlands area.
However have read a few posts saying there is sea but no beaches in the immediate redlands area, and that you need to travel to the gold coast.
It is very important to us to be quite near to a beach where the children can swim/surf etc.
What do you all think???
we have found some threads about Arundel and the school etc looks good there (we have boys of 11,9,6),any advice welcome.
Cheers

The Bayside is protected by Moreton Island, and therefore don't get rough seas, well not very often at least.
If you want surf, then the Gold Coast would be better.

We go to the local beaches here a lot but they're not really comparable to the gold coast. We swim here, you see a lot of windsurfing, kitesurfing and waterskiing but you'd need the gold coast for surf.
We go through Arundel to the gold coast but only on the motorway so havnt really seen any of it.
I have often thought that it seems neither here nor there, farish from Brisbane and the beaches of the gold coast? This is just a fleeting uninformed thought though, it could be lovely!

As ABC and mcmercer have said, if you want surf, you will be better off on the GOLD coast! Bayside is a bit like being next to a very very big lake! Also there is not a lot of sand. Wellington point has a small bit , don't know about Victoria point but there is an island (couchiemudlo?) where you can get the ferry to from Vic point that has small sandy beaches.
Gold coast has miles and miles and miles!!!!!
But I don't think I could live there and commute to Brisbane everyday.
Each to their own.

I agree with the rest their are beaches around this area but they are 2nd rate compared to the GC or SC and no surf because of the islands offshore that shelter them.
You need to come and have a look for yourself before making the decision of where to live.

Here is a link to some Photos of Victoria Point.
The photos are taken at Low Tide, so it doesn't look that great, but it does show how shallow and safe the beach is.
I'll do more later, at high tide.
