Hats off to them for giving it a go in this mornings WDU R I wouldn't do it with 4 small children, but I to agree it needs abit longer than a month to settle in. They were so positive at the start and its a shame they are going home.

Good luck to them where ever they end up.

Hi, didn't see the very end of the program (screaming 4 year old came in with his friend) so I missed that bit but I have it recorded. I have to say that a month is by no means enough time to settle. We can't wait to go and watching WDU is a bit depressing for us but it is gr8 to see the different places. I agree with others that have posted, it was the wife. To drag your family to the other side of the world, sell your home and then stay less time than you'd stay if you were on vacation is madness. We have no intention of coming back to Ireland. We both have parents and brothers and sisters but not that close to anyone. We are not cold people we just love our 2 children and they are our family.

From my experience moving back to Australia I would say the husband was very realistic. He realised that it wasn't worth it for him professionally and I agree completely. Now my husband and I have properly permanent work at the correct level and pay for our experience it has made a world of difference to our emotional well being. Made us realise how demeaning it was for us the whole underemployment, lack of job security and the humiliation of working below our experience that we experienced in Australia. I think no amount of trips to the beach makes up for job satisfaction and security.

I saw a bit of today's one, it was Adelaide where we are hoping to end up, does anyone know if it is going to be repeated?
Cheers

Also - I cant figure out how they managed to live etc. on his wage along, less than £20k wasn't it, or it may have been between £20 k and £25k here.
And there house in UK was worth about £350k?!
Maybe they had money from family etc. Even still - they were surviving on just his wage in OZ, and we think we'd struggle to survive on oh's wage in Oz of the equivilent to £26k here, and thats only with 2 children, and were very carefull!

my OH wondered if they'd kept their UK house & rented it out, which then made it easier to return home?

it just did seem a fairly quick decision to make, seeming v.happy in adelaide & then a few weeks/month later it must have been, in perth with everything changed. i wonder what happened

they seem a lovely couple, i hope everything works out well for them!

I was gutted that they decided to come back so soon too. They seemed really happy in Adelaide, the kids had settled in school too. Obviously the programme didnt show us everything that had gone on. I thought it funny that they didnt give Perth a go if they had family there anyway.

She said that there wasn't enough there for them (the adults). They were a nice couple who deserve to be happy but i think it was mostly about friends & family. I would think it takes at least 18 months to build relationships that are close to the ones you had at home. Maybe then you can make a decision about whether you have settled or not. Understand the issue about his job and wages though. I'd be interested to see how they feel after being home for a few months, but hope they are happy.

I wondered if once they had been back a while they would remember the reasons they wanted to go in the first place. Seemed a nice couple hope it works out for them wherever they are.

They did seem like a great family, and like they had a great relationship, so was suprised at the ending. But there is nothing worse than home-sickness, I cried my eyes out when I first moved out of my mum and dads, and that was only half hour up the road lol!!

Thats why when we do go I will be seeing it as a trip for a few years - so hopefully after the 'few years trip' I will be ready for 'this is home - forever!'

I think the key thing was when she said that they were trying to keep busy and not think about missing anyone. If you don't deal with emotions they will end up overwhelming you, and you may do things that are a little more drastic than you might have otherwise. Agree with what everyone else has said too.

I watched all of these last week when I was off work sick (full of cold), but this is the first one that hub watched too. Just my luck that it was the one that ended in tears! He's spent the whole night analysing it. But I suppose its best to think of the worst that can happen as well as the best.
