Default Basic Australian Immigration FAQ

While I believe that immigration matters are complex and technical in nature, there are some regular questions that can be answered generically.

I'm sure there have been past efforts to put together such an FAQ, but here's my attempt so far.

I'm not alone in doing this, and would surely welcome any input, especially if it's to point out frequent questions asked here that I haven't yet picked up.

Hi Peter

I have noticed a lot of pregnancy related questions, such as

What happens if I get pregnant before my request for medicals?
What happens if I get pregnant after my request for medicals?
What happens if I have my visa, but not validated it, and my child is born?

It may be worth adding these questions to your excellent list of FAQ's

I have a criminal conviction and I wish to emigrate, what should I do?

I have seen and answered this one a lot since I joined the forum.

Peter,

Excellent list & very useful.

From my perambulations in this & other forums it does seem that we all worry (probably disproportionately) about the medicals. What about FAQs on:

'I have been graded a 'B' on my medical; what does this mean, and what implications does it have for my application?' (I found it very hard to get clear info on this one myself)

'Where do I find the list of DIMIA Panel Doctors?'

'Is there an official DIMIA description of what the medical is for, and what to expect?' (ISTR there is an excellent very useful DIMIA form on line, to which you could link for this one; also a reminder to bring along the passport & 4 passport pics might be useful too)

Hope that helps.

Anya.

Maybe I should put this in the FAQ itself

If there is to be a NZ version, it most unfortunately won't come from me. I'm not that familiar with NZIS rules & regulations - except for that one subject of NZ de-facto PR using an Australian permanent visa.

Thumbs up Re: Basic Australian Immigration FAQ

Hi ptlabs,

Your FAQs are, as many have noted, very helpful and well written.

One suggestion: A list of abbreviations/acronyms would be really handy for newbies.

In any event, keep up the great work!

Cheers,
PR

Thanks for your comments. I'll add that in when I revise the FAQ, whenever that'll be... it's been quite a while since I did that!
