Look up some tafes, think its called responsible service of alcohol, but yes there is a course. There is also one for serving coffee I am not joking. Check the tafes in your state.

I did the responsible serving of alcohol course which was run by the local council, so I can work behind the bar of where I play rugby.

It took three hours on a single evening and was free. It was a laugh – the bloke who ran it was intentionally hilarious.

Most jobs advertisied say you need a certificate. I think the courses are only a day or two.

http://jobguide.thegoodguides.com.au....cfm?jobid=930 Just clink on your state for more info

Having not applied for any jobs yet, I'm unsure if they will recognise previous experience from the UK and let you bypass the certificate, but it is worth a try.

In case you do need a course:
If you look in the job paper there is usually a section on training and more often that not there are courses in there.

To get a full time job in a bar in Victoria.... and almost certainly NSW, as well. You need a Gaming licence, so you can handle the Pokie side of things, as most bars have pokie machines.... well the ones with lots of employees do.

"Responsible service of alcohol"

I used to teach it in NSW. It's illegal to serve a drunk person, or to serve the one drink that will push them over the edge to make them drunk. 10,000 fine to the server if they get it wrong., plus or minus jail term.

I hope not. I used to be a bar manager in the UK and dont want have to do any more exams to prove a 10 year track record if i go back to work. I got out of having to get a personal licence in the UK by going back to being a barmaid, cos the cost was unbelievable, and most brewery's and pub co's wont pay for personal licence

Hi Dawn,
when you've done your course, I know a lovely little bar in Midland that you could work in, only trouble is though - it's a skimpy bar
Good luck,

Tracey
PS See you Thursday!
