can anyone advise us on which bank to use in Australia we are moving to Perth shortly and we need to set up a bank account for when we arrive, we were going to use HSBC but they said we needed to have the account open for six months before they would concider us even though we had a large amount of cash in their bank, so we told them to forget it and took our money out, we were not very impressed with their service no one seems to know what they are doing.
Can anyone advise us the on the best bank with the highest interest rates as we will be banking the money we get from the sale of our house, and we may leave it there for a while and wait for the exchange rate the pick up (thats if it every will).
any ideas will be appreciated.

I've used the Commonwealth Bank for over 20 years, 4 mortgages and no complaints. They have an internet only rate for a term deposit of 4.5%.

We used Commonwealth for 8 months a few years ago, and found the service excellent, if a little over priced.

When we get over there, we intend to use HSBC. They have only a couple of branches, but we hav'nt needed to go into a bank for ages anyway. Internet and telephone banking rules in our view

HSBC has excellent rates, and does'nt charge for eftpos (although they do charge for more than 5 cash withdrawals in a month).

Have a look....

Cheers

Pete.

We were told that HSBC ATM withdrawals were unlimited use for free and also due to there not being many HSBC ATM's that commonwealth ATM's also were free unlimited useage.

Is this correct?

As far as i am aware, its free at any HSBC atm, and you get 5 free at any other atm, after which you get charged.

NOTE : you don't get charged when you get cash out through etfpos when you buy somthing (like cashback with switch).
