You can also print the forms and post to ANZ in Australia, they will then send you your account information and once you arrive in Australia you will have to validate the account with your passport.

You can deposit money into the account while it is not validated.

I set up both a bank account and savings account with Westpac via the internet and have transferred money to both accounts through Ozforex. The only thing I can't do is make withdrawals or transfer between accounts until I activate the account when I get to Oz

You can also open a bank account with HSBC. They have branches out there too.

Make appointment and see what they say.

We are thinking of doing the same thing. If you do talk to them, let us know.

Cheers

Hi, I work for National Australia Bank in Melbourne. Drop me a PM and I can put you in touch with an excellent Branch Manager.

I am in the process of opening an HSBC account. Been a few problems at this end as the U.K branch told me my forms of identification were OK when they helped me apply for the account. Turned out they were not, as one of my cards used didn't have my full name on it! Been a right hassle, but after a month of over £1000 (int banker's draft) lying on someone's desk, in the International office in London, my account is finally going to be processed....I hope

...also try and do a search, as there has been a lot posted on this subject lately

I tried to open an Australian account with HSBC from the UK. We were only in the UK for a couple of weeks so needed to do it quickly.

The first person we spoke to in the branch didn't have a clue. The next person told us they couldn't do it at the branch, but took all the details and said that the "International Dept" would calls us. They didn't call us, so before departing UK we called the call centre. We were then told, "No, that's not right, it has to be done at the branch."

Good luck, leave yourself lots of time to set it up.
