Ballet and Dance for Boys in AU (VIC) - Discuss
What are people's experiences, and what age did they start.
We are a dancing family and the boy is now interested, at age 6. He's also not wanting to give up sport.
Seems the academies have little feeder programmes to attract the little buggers...
Cheers

Girls generally start at 3 years old, boys can start later. I've seen talented boys start in their teens. But 6 is a good age.
Boys in ballet are favoured and told they're brilliant regardless of ability because they want them to stay in class and also because they quite often are crap until they hit their teen years. They'll always get a mention in competitions, we call it "penis points".

Thanks Kim. My son danced for a year and then gave it up for Auskick. All of a sudden,he wants to return and his sisters are delighted. We gather boys can start later and are encouraged and the various academies even promote in some instances with access to workshops. Chief is a lot more across it than me, (I have 2 left feet).
