Default Average relocation costs?

On average how much has it cost to relocate? Shipping, flights and the other things I probably haven't considered yet?

What relocation costs have sponsoring companies met if any?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Hi

My sponoring company paid for the all the medicals plus the visas cost and my flight, we had to pay for my wife and our sons flights.
They sorted a hire car for a couple of weeks, but that's not much really.

Our container was just over £3000, flights £950 (expensive time of year)

We bought some return flight for under £500 in a seat sale on Christmas eve 2005. Emirates flying Birmingham - Perth return. If you have the cash to spare and plan ahead, you can get some good deals.

Neil.
Depending on the job/grade you might be able to get private health insurance.

Hi pen8uin

We're really lucky. My husband's sponsoring company are paying for our visas, x-rays & medicals. They have also agreed to pay relocation expenses upto the value of $15,000 - shipping costs, flights x3, stop over accomodation in Singapore & 1st months furnished rental.

flights - you'll have to do some searching as it depends on your dates:

Would company be sponsoring you on a temporary visa 457 or permanent one?
457 Visa Restrictions

In our case sponsoring company is paying up to AUD12,000 for relocation costs. They're organising 2 weeks furnished accommodation. They have not paid for our medicals but they will pay for health insurance. They have paid for the visa.

Dried Graze is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: Average relocation costs?

We have a very generous AUS$19000 but our problem is finding the money up front.

Things they cover include:

Medicals/X-rays
Flights
Hire car
Temp accom.
Rental bond/advance

However, they have said they try their best to accommodate most other related costs provided it's still within budget. I can't give our personal relocation costing as we're still calculating.

Our costings:

Certified copies £35.25
TRA skills assessment (priority) £206.70
International bankers draft for TRA £15.00
Visa application (47sk) £861.83
Police check’s £10 per adult £20.00
Chest x-rays £50 adult £100.00
Medicals £120 adult £60 child £360.00
Special delivery both ways for visa evidencing £8.50

Total: £1,607.28

Plus add approx £15-£20 for postage costs

Flights booked with IOM £1,289.42 for 2 adults, 1 child & 1 infant flying Qantas with extra baggage allowance of 40kg. Compared with Expedia £1429.60 (cheapest were Royal Brunei at £1115.60).

Shipping quotes based on minimum amount of 2 cubic ft (16 boxes 50x50x50") £444.50 - 1st Move International (shipit.co.uk) or £440 - Robinsons, these were the only one's out of those we chose who replied to our request for minimum quotes. A lot of the big name firms have online quoting, just list what you're sending to see the damage to your wallet.

Who is IOM who you booked your flights through? Sorry for my ignorance!

Thanks for all the other info, especially about the shipping, we have very little to ship so knowing about those with minimum orders is a great help!

Thanks

Family of 4...going in sept, this is our high level projected spend:

£ 2000 RPL/Visas/meds etc
£ 1000 Extra stuff to buy this end before going
£ 7000 Shipping & insurance 40ft container)
£ 2000 Flights (Singapore with 4 night stopover)
£ 2000 Stuff to buy at other end, e.g. decent fridge/misc items
£ 1000 Temp accommodation, whilst looking for permanent rental
------
£15,000 Ouch!

PLUS...about 3 months lost earnings...best case!

IOM - International Organisation for Migration

Our visa grant letter mentioned them, were very efficient, just sent them an e-mail, they got us a quote which we then compared, they got us 40kg baggage allowance and after asking we were even able to pay by personal cheque to their London office.

Good luck

Start a spreadsheet and the costs will go up or down depending on your personal circumstances or requirements.

Lots of good advice on various aspects will come from this forum to help keep you to your own budget. only point I will make to watch out for is the cost of insurance - budget for 2.8% but think hard about what you are valuing that on - when you sit down and add all your items the cost can become somewhat "do I or dont I dilemma".
