Default Automatic cars

I'm planning to move to Perth within the next five years to be with family.

I'm about to start driving lessons but am thinking of just having automatic lessons and getting an automatic licence. I can't see the point in gears if you don't need them. Are automatic cars available in Australia and will I be able to drive them in Oz on an automatic UK Driving licence. I figure i'll definitely need a car in Oz as its so remote.

One other thing, are automatci cars more expensive?

Steady eddy

You can get automatics over in Australia yes. You will initially be able to use your UK drivign licence to drive in Australia but if your intending on moving there then you will need to take an Aussie theory and (???) driving test I think but others the guys who are there will explain that and correct me if i'm wrong.
LMAO well some bits are remote i suppose other bits aren't depends where you're going to

No theres no automatic cars in OZ, we can't afford them so we all drive around in old bomb manuals from the 1950' and 60's like they do in Cuba and india.

Think it depends on where you go... Here in NSW it's a straight replacement, no test, theory or otherwise... Believe it's just changed in Queensland to the same... Dunno about WA though, but I'm sure someone that does will be along soon...

There's no theory test required in WA either!

One thing just to mention, not all cars are automatics and they are generally more expensive as well. Most trucks etc are manual as are a lot of off roaders. If your going to the expense of learning to drive anyway, maybe think about getting a manual licence as you never know what the future holds.

Say your partner and you were out somewhere and something happened. They were driving a manual car, they are now incapacitated....and you cant drive...

Or the company car you've been given is a manual...you cant use it.

Only saying this as I doubt there is a price difference in learning manual or auto and saves you the expense of doing it all over again and taking a second test.
