Considering that 25% of the population are supposedly immigrants or children of immigrants (and currently British migrants only make up around 10% of the whole) it shows that an awful lot the 36.5% of the population claiming British ancestry are looking back much further than two generations.

This file provides a closer look at the ancestry figures.
An example follows:
Ancestry: English
Both parents born in Australia: 3,676,348
Mother Australian-born/Father born overseas: 541,061
Father Australian-born/Mother born overseas: 374,790
Both parents born overseas: 364,594
Parent(s') birthplace not stated: 113,170
Total overseas born: 1,143,371
The results for people claiming Irish ancestry are similar, but with a lower percentage of parents born overseas:
Ancestry: Irish
Both parents born in Australia: 1,335,193
Mother Australian-born/Father born overseas: 145,001
Father Australian-born/Mother born overseas: 89,141
Both parents born overseas: 67,535
Parent(s) birthplace not stated: 30,955
Total overseas born: 212,179
Ancestry: Welsh
Both parents born in Australia: 29,686
Mother Australian-born/Father born overseas: 8,178
Father Australian-born/Mother born overseas: 4,789
Both parents born overseas: 7,850
Parent(s') birthplace not stated: 989
Total overseas born: 31,556
I fall into the category of people born with English ancestry; my father was English and England-born, while my mother is Australian and Australian-born, though her own father was English and England-born.

It could probably (with devlopment) take double the people it has now, and because it was discovered so late in the grand scheme of things, its never going to have a majority of natives, you could argue that there is no real natives of australia.
doesnt 38.7% make them a minority in their country anyway? it just makes them the mode right?

Yea, and according to the UK census data, and my own experience of living in the UK for several decades, you would be hard-pushed to find any "cultural diversity" outside the major UK cities (including that crime-free nirvana you commute to from the melting pot that is Harpenden) - unless you count different types of white, anglo-saxon, indolent, feeble-minded, self-serving, pseudo-intellectual, NIMBYs.

And that would be blatently misleading.
