Default Australian Income Tax Calculator

Not intended to be absolutely accurate but may give a rough estimate as to what to expect in the way of income tax / take home pay:

Cheers Luke I Amyofath.

Also our lovely friends at Australian Tax Office have great pages on their website and are nothing but so helpful when I have spoken to them on the phone - seriously.

This calculator is slightly out of date, it quotes
Please note: does not include Medicare Levy or HECS payments. This calculator is based on figures available at the Australian Taxation Office Web Site as at 24th February 2000
But it doesn't make much difference. eg: on $45,000 the calculator says $9,880, but in 2004 it is $9,672. As I said not a big difference, but you do need to add the medicare levy. That needs a more complex calculator, but could be another $600 on the above example.

It was a calculation done to show people if they were better of after GST was introduced. Thats VAT to those who don't know.

I'm not sure how they calculated it, as it depends on many factors, or which polical parties figures you read

I'll have another look at it.....

It isn't what I first thought. Its just the differences before and after they changed the tax rates, when GST came in. Income tax was reduced to compensate for the GST.

Watch the trick of moving your pensionand investments around in the UK before departure - a UK investment product may be taxed as income. This is a pre-departure shuffle that does work.

Cheers

I forgot to say that the pre-departure shuffle with pensions can significantly reduce your tax. Some you can do in the "Gap" and some before leaving. It can send you into a Nil or low tax bracket, its called re-basing.

All the Best
