just curious about the attitudes Australians have towards british immigrants looking to settle, are we a sore subject like immigration is in britain, or do they welcome us with open arms like every recruitment agency would have you believe?

We've been welcomed with open arms. For the most part, the perception here is the majority of migrants are brought in to plug skills shortages and contribute towards building the nation whereas in the UK it's seen rather differently....

All depends on the attitude you arrive with too! When we moved here two years ago we embraced everything Australian, realising how lucky we were to get the opportunity to live in this superb country! (Watch the trolls tear this statement apart lol) Just don't start complaining about the heat/cost of lettuce/lack of choice from the moment you arrive and you'll be grand! :thumbsup:

Seriously, all people need to realise is that Australia is just another country; some Aussies welcome migrants, some don't; many are migrants themselves and some of those have forgotten what its like.
As for the moaning thing, everyone misses stuff, this is a good place to think about what we have all left behind. Being honest about what you miss doesn't make you a "troll" :)

I haven't come across any anti-British sentiment in Australia. Most actually will start telling you their great aunt Mildred was originally from somewhere you've never heard of in darkest Lincolnshire.

Attitudes can be more negative to non-white immigrants however. Probably akin to the UK there.

I got my first anti-pom conment 3 months ago, nit bad in 8 years. I've been called a whinging pom and other similar things many times, but only that one time has it been nasty.

Even being called a 'Pom' grates nowadays. I am developing a fetish for words with multi-syllables where the second isn't an 'o'

Exactly.

And a lot of Australia is very multicultural, being one race or another isnt really going to make much of an impression either way on anyone.

In employment, the truth is its probably a disadvantage, rather than welcome with open arms. Aussie experience and the right bits of paper:sneaky: are worth far more.

Not that I have found, many Australian's have British parents, grandparents etc and very common to meet other Brits in the workplace etc.

I have experienced nothing but friendliness, it would be more likely for me to highlight something different about me for being British (in a light hearterd manner) than for anyone else to do so. At the moment I am teasing everyone about coming to work in arctic survivial suits because the temperature dropped to 19 degrees.

The only time I've been called a Pom was when the first aid instructor used a nickname "My little Pommy Friend" which I didn't mind at all, there was no malice, it was meant in a friendly way.

I was called unaustralian once for failing to indulge in cane toad torture...but that was in Qld.
