Wow that's pretty rough though isn't it.

We came back from abroad when we were younger and my parents got a council house within weeks. Trying to get social housing now in the UK must be a nightmare - all the decent stuff will have been bought by tenants at reduced prices over the years.

Also, the councils are quite happy to let you live on the streets if you're intentionally homeless, which I guess is what returnees are.
