Not the case. We have advanced enough to be able to influence our environment... regardless of what that may bring. Aboriginal culture never did and it paid the ultimate cost for not moving forward.

Not the case

I think some people have a big shock coming to them over the next 5-6 decades.
The culture here may not be as 'advanced' by western standards, but what does that mean?

Capitalism? 'Democracy'? Greed? Materialism?

Sorry, you can keep them.

The only advancement 'the west' will achieve is ****ing the planet up for everyone else, still I suppose this is natures way of limiting our species.

Not the ONLY advancement. We have advanced greatly in warfare too.

Why bother when petrol here is so cheap ?
But you can buy a diesel car here if you prefer to. It is your choice.

The average Australian car travels about 15,000 kms per year, you say you do about 64,000 kms per year. I can fully understand why you would be looking into fuel economy.

The answer to expensive cars is to buy a new car

New cars are often cheaper here in Australia, than in the UK.

The advantage then, is that when you go to sell your car, you get a higher price for it when selling it secondhand.

...and what would you replace them with?. Some utopian "Star Trek" society?

uranus you are a self opinionated, silly billy.

The aboriginals didn't need to evolve as such, they were quite happy living a sustainable and simple life, living off of the land. They didn't need to fight intruders and as a consequence didnt need to evolve like the europeans did.

What exactly is is that you consider such a marvellous advancement that the europeans hold over them?

Is it your 52 inch plasma screen TV, your need to keep up with the joneses or the fact that you can now buy viagra to help you with the problems that you have in the bedroom?

To move to another country (which im assuming you did) and then denigrate the indigenous population is nothing short of bigotry.

With attitudes like yours you might as well give up because you will never find what you are looking for.

What exactly is it that you are looking for?

Why do you place such value on being "able to influence our environment"? Why not value the ability to live life alongside our environment? I'm not saying that Aboriginal culture was some sort of utopia, but I do find your attitude that the culture was somehow less worthy because it hadn't "advanced" in the direction where your value base is entrenched and therefore had what was coming to it (ie. almost total extinction by a more "civilised" culture in a handful of decades) quite distasteful and self congratulatory.

I'm not going to say anything more on the matter because I know well enough that this will go nowhere but I do find your attitude sad

What the fook are the pair of you on about?
I pointed out that if you don't progress then somebody/something bigger/faster/smarter will come along and replace you. Its called evolution and it will happen as long as there are living creatures on this planet.

Aboriginal culture didn't advance in 40,000 years. It was a Stone Age culture when Europeans arrived and it paid the price for that. It has happened to every human culture that has ever existed and will continue long after we are all dead and gone.

It is the very nature of existance on this globe and if you both think that's distastful then that's just tough... nothing and nobody will EVER change it.
