Australia - Pros and Cons

Australia - Pros and Cons
I've been here almost 9 months now and have days when I love it and days when I loathe it.
Pros:
THE CLIMATE - the main reason we moved here.
Friendly people - it's been really easy to make friends and we have a good social life.
The Beach - love it.
The preservation of historical architecture in Adelaide which
makes it a really quaint, picturesque little city.
Parklands and Trees in Adelaide
The Adelaide Hills - which remind me of the hills near Bath
The tropical parts of Australia and proximity to places like Fiji.
The Outback (in smallish doses).
Relatively Low crime
Relatively large houses and gardens and being able to have a swimming pool.
Cons:
Gossipy, cliquey overly competitive people - Aussies are the best of people and the worst of people
The work environment - Yech !! (am I back at Nursery School ?)
Incredibly long working hours and huge amounts of work - laptop goes home every night.
Rampant Chauvanism - it's even worse than it's made out to be.
Concern about drought and water restrictions (guess that comes with a great climate).
Bloody huge stamp duties on everything (including mortgages).
Nanny State with RULES for every bloody thing.
General lack of culture and refinement of the population.
The idea of my children growimg up to sound like Aussies (arguably the world's worst accent).

Why did you make the move? Reading some of your posts, I'd worry if your kids grew up sounding like you!

Lets look into his gripes:
1. Gossipy, cliquey overly competitive people - Aussies are the best of people and the worst of people.
Been in stupid workplaces too, never know who you'll be thrown together with.
2. The work environment - Yech !! (am I back at Nursery School ?)
Maybe he hasn't leart all the ropes yet so needs supervision.
3. Incredibly long working hours and huge amounts of work - laptop goes home every night.
Not valuable enough to keep on for a normal days work so gets extra home work.
4. Rampant Chauvanism - it's even worse than it's made out to be.
Still being teased about lack of adaptation?
5. Concern about drought and water restrictions (guess that comes with a great climate).
Driest state in the driest continent might have something to do with it.
6. Bloody huge stamp duties on everything (including mortgages).
Reasonable grumble: he got them all in one hit no doubt.
7. Nanny State with RULES for every bloody thing.
Never had a nanny, except a goat, so don't know what he's on about.

By culture, perhaps he means entertainment or perhaps he has a narrow definition of the word. Refinement? Come to Australia and expect to ponce about?
