reading Ptlabs FAQs (immigration board), looking at the DIMIA website (download the booklets) and find out which situation suits your situation best as there are several different methods.
most go via the skilled route, in which case booklet 6 is the one you need to look at.
btw welcome

Reading the posts here helps (although also helps send you round the bend).
There are agents who help you with everything too, at a price of course - but usually the first chat on the phone is free.

Re: Australia
On a tourist Visa you wont be able to apply for jobs though as applications etc all say "Must have permanent visa" etc etc
And if you did manage it out there, I think you would have to come back to england to apply for the permanent visa - this could take 12-18 months - it would have to be a good employer to wait that long.

we both registered online for the points test and my partner passed it - the next step he said for them to deal with our case would cost a few thousand to see if they can get us permanent visa - is this right - iam really confused with all the faqs - is there someone you can call to speak to or can you visit the embassy to discuss your case with someone ???
Thanks for you help by the way

Hi Shelley,
It is confusing at first (im new to this myself!) but you soon start to pick it all up.
I think for the applications etc if you are to do them yourself would cost *about* £1,500 and an agent will charge *about* £3,000
So they are getting £1,500 but if you pick a good agent it could save you a lot of time and hassle - plus I think a rejected application could go against you.
As I say, I am new to this but see the process as:
Apply to the 'TRA' who assess your job experience against your qualifications
When accepted apply to the DIMA along with a load of other stuff ie Degree certificates, passports, birth certs, breakdown of modules in qualifications etc etc
They then request medical reports and police checks
Send them off...
Wait..
Wait a bit more...
Hopefully receive the thumbs up and you get the visa.
There are 101 ways to apply and if you have a straight forward application then you could do it yourself and save the money. Mine isn't 100% straight forward and I like someone holding my hand etc etc so i'm going with an agent.

You might also want to look in the immigration forum on this site. Might be more directly relevant to your queries at this point than this one (lifestyle and culture).
