Okay. I was asking which source the $104k came from as others were reporting other amounts.

Link.

Anyway it wasn't him, his "unnamed friend" forged his signature to use the card. Don't you hate when your friends forge your signature and steal six figure sums of money from the union you work for?

I'm sure he reported the theft to the police though like a good citizen would, in which case they will have records that at least partially clear him. I mean a man formerly on the House of Representatives economics committee would surely know about credit card safety (And you ask why your economy is in trouble? ).

O dear, union have descided that keeping him our of trouble would be too politically costly:
HSU national secretary Kathy Jackson said, after a tense meeting of the union's executive at a Sydney hotel, that while the union had originally believed Fair Work Australia should investigate the matter, the recent publicity surrounding Mr Thomson and what Ms Jackson called “new information” had led union leaders to the decision to go to the police.

Legal experts have told The Australian that Mr Brandis' approach to Mr Scipione would not on its own carry much weight, but a complaint from the alleged victim of the alleged misspending of over $100,000 of union funds would compel him to act.

The head of the HSU's NSW-Victoria branch, Mike Williamson, didn't attend today's meeting in person, but he participated via a teleconference.

Mr Williamson, a powerful figure in ALP circles, has been a strong supporter and friend of Mr Thomson in the past.

So what will it be:
- Fall on his own sword and resign leaving the party to fight a byelection? Still at least they would have some chance because their boy did the right thing (eventually, but one doesn't just admit to sleaze).
Or
- Don't do the honorable thing and suffer the slowest, most drawn out, police investigation you can imagine while trying desperatly to pressure the police into dropping the case. Every second possible being wasted including requesting multiple extensions before the trial. Hopefully this takes them past the next election and if not they hire witchdoctors and lawyers and pray that the verdict goes their way.

Can you image how desperate the Greens would be at the moment to avoid a by-election? I would have thought they would be even more desperate than Labor.

Maybe but at least it wasn't one of theirs that let the side down. Funny when Gillard wanted to talk about Australias economic situation rather than a certain "very naughty" MP, talk about choosing between a rock and a hard place for her at the moment!

Still doesn't tell us what he got for the money :
He stayed in the Grand Hyatt on April 5, 2006. Phone records filed in court show a call was made from his room to Young Blondes escort agency and later to Confidential Models escort agency. On June 7, 2006, a call was made from his hotel room at the Pacific International Suites to an escort agency called Bad Girls.

That wouldn't work, the police are even more corrupt than the politicians. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the "friend" was a policeman. It would explain why he's being so tightlipped.

I enjoyed this letter/comment in today's Australian from Paul Chapman, Floreat, WA: I'm hoping for a union credit card for Father's Day.

Me first!

I saw today the Health Union national secretary was given a spade which seems a bit underhand . After all if she didn't report it her union members would have been very annoyed, she did the right thing by not trying to cover it all up IMO. Honesty is the best policy, if this looks like a cover-up and he lied voters would be far more annoyed than an MP sleeping with a few slappers. Though obviously the fraud aspect is more serious.

Obviously it's the dishonesty that the opposition would like to leverage. (And the reason he should be kicked out.)

However they (the opposition) have a few problems. The sleeping with tarts (that's being reported) was before he was an MP. The fraudulent use of the credit card (again before being an MP) can't be used until the court case is over. Not sure if avoiding bankruptcy by getting a loan from the party is an indictable offence. So the only thing they can really get their teeth into is failing to declare the loan on the members' interest register.

I suspect that they've had enough of their own members fail that test to make too big a song and dance about it.
