You know all the debate rages on these boards about the UK and Australia and where is good to live but dont you think the Australian government have done one thing here positive that is , they have made it very clear to would be extremists that they are not welcome and they will be punished if they try it on.

Still Seems light to me , they should have gotten the death penalty. when you say how they will be treated in Prison? l'd imagine in Sydney there would be large numbers of Lebanese in jail they would probably protect them from any attacks from non muslim prisoners

I do like the way the ozzies have a zero tolerance to would be terrorists. They were caught with literature, chemicals etc. etc. and still the XXX sister is yelling its not fair that they should be imprisoned for so long. Put her and here relatives on the next plane to the Yemen I say. Don't get me started on the PC brigade that think that body scanners are 'an infringement of our basic human rights' Well lets just hope that its there daughter that gets blown up in the name of Allah rather than my own.... l still don't think 20 or 30 years is enough, what happens when they get released, they can still carry our their insane jihad then, some will only be in their mid 40's and 50's not too old to commit mass murder. They should get the death penalty or never be released. Also l think people in the UK or OZ who plan or commit terrorism who were born in another country even if they are citizens of the UK or OZ should have theit citizenship taken away on the grounds of treason and deported when their prison sentance ends. They obtained their citizenship by fraud becasue they lied when they swore loyalty to the UK or OZ so their citizenship should be revoked.

I am not for Body scanners at all the crux of the problem is the skimping of cash on the staff at screening. If you walk into a Airport you see the Federal Police patroling. Then you see the scanner staff all private contracters and I know private contracters do not like spending money on extensive training. Why are there not Federal police on the screening?

We employ customs staff on entry into australia to catch contraband, yet employ private lower paid staff to protect aircraft carrying lives?

Hope your day improves, I agree with most of the stuff you and Mohogony say but cant condone the use of the raghead thing.

Believe me the answer is increased continous training of staff as well as increased pay at the screening. However that would cost way more than body scanners. So Body scanners are what they go for.

If they refuse to use the body scanners then they should'nt be allowed to board the plane they can travel by boat instead.

I am a average looking male with no disfigurements I have no problem with the scanners. Some people could be very concious of their body image.

Every time we impose such measures we strip away the quality of life we are trying to protect.

They are to be incarcerated at the Supermax in Goulburn, they were on remand in Silverwater Sydney. Like the judge said these people wear the sentence as a badge of honour.

If the Authorities have any backbone they would also punish their families.... intern them all in a secret Guantanamo Bay style camp in remote Central Australia.

It's interesting that these men were imprisoned for a crime which they actually had not yet committed. Does this set a precedent?

By the way, I'm not criticising the court or siding with the defendants. I'm just wondering if thinking about committing a crime is now punishable in the law.
