Default Aussie TV listings

http://au.tv.yahoo.com/

It it interesting to see that they mostly get the same rubbish as we do (even if some of it is years behind and Aussie stuff years ahead).

Actually quite a good night tonight with Rove on (he is a bit like Patrick Kielty, only funny rather than annoying)

I'd have to reverse that, Paddy (as we Norn Irish call him) is funny. Rove is just a smug unfunny annoying american imitation.

I first saw Paddy doing a stand up routine in 'The Empire' on Botanic avenue in Belfast, about 1990. He was an unknown then, but he stole the show. I've been watching him ever since. Given a free reign, he can be really funny, its just the networks try and force him into a certain format that doesn't fit.

Rove chose this format, and still isn't a patch on letterman, conan o'brien, or even Jay Leno.

Rant over

I didn't even know Rove was on tonight, oh well, thats saved me an hour,

Cheers,
JTL

The web page aint worth the cyber space its written on. I don't believe theres such a thing as an accurate TV listing guide over here. The networks are always trying to one up the others.

Rove is poo!!

You'll love TV if you like hour long cop dramas. Tonight we had CSI followed by season premiere CSI NY. Wednesday CSI Miami, followed by ALL new Without a Trace, followed by all repeat Without a Trace. blah blah blah. Law and order, Law and Order Criminal intent, Law and Order SVU, Third Watch, The Shield, Cold Case, Medium, NCIS and heaven help us The Bill.

Its not that I mind the hour long cop dramas, its just the lack of frickin imagination tht goes into the schedules.

Though have to say I'm hooked on Shameless on SBS on Monday nights.

Not sure of that web site - I usually use this one which seems to be fairly accurate. What really pisses me to tears is the ratings/non ratings periods, because of which you can end up with ALL NEW CSI one week, 2 series ago CSI the next week, ALL NEW CSI the next, recent episode from current ALL NEW series CSI (but not billed as ALL NEW because it was shown 5 weeks ago), then ALL NEW CSI etc. etc. Good job the storylines that run through the series of CSI are both predictable and unimportant (a bit like the actual main plots).

As for Rove, I agree, mediocre, unfunny, smug and irritating.

Cheers,

DagBoy

When we were in Oz for a holiday in 2003, we watched an hour long murder-mystery. Unfortunately it started a few minutes late, but was stopped at the correct time (mid-sentence I seem to remember). We never did find out who'd done it!

We watched an episode of A Touch of Frost that took an hour longer than if it was shown in the UK because there was an advert break every 6 or 7 minutes.

The best part of Rove last night was Ross Noble, he cracks me up. Rove has his moments, he can be pretty funny if he wants to but his interviewing skills are crap "do you like Australia?" type questions.

Reminds me that it's almost time for the Melbourne Comedy Festival again

Rove is a very wooden and limited performer as afar as I'm concerned. Watch him, then watch Parky - the old guy gives it to him big time.

I get the impression that this year Ch9 may have picked wrong by opting for wall to wall police based stuff. The ratings seem to have other shows at the top - Lost, Desparate Houswife etc. I really have had a gutfull of CSI, though if CSI Macclesfield does get made I guess I'll watch it.

I confess I do watch the BIll - I actually met the wife in one of the pubs they regularly use, and we went to NYE 1999 in the dodgy estate they feature.

Their biggest mistake was ditching 'Micallef'. Now there was a guy whos interviewing technique was utterly utterly rubbish, but so bad it made you laugh, cos you knew they were all in on the joke (apart from some guests who just looked stunned). It was a kind of Tommy Cooper style of interviewing, where everything goes wrong, awkward silences, inappropriate questions, forgetting the question, getting the facts wrong, all that..

I think the 'Kumars at No. 42' had the same idea.

Oh that reminds me, what was that bloody awful rip-off version of the Kumars over here. 'Greeks on the roof' or something? I watched it once, it was awful! That women host with the really fake accent was just not funny. It goes to show, its not just the format, you need the personality and charisma to pull it off.

Cheers,
JTL

Do you get Spooks and Taggart over there?

Think they're the only two shows I'd actually miss....

No! They can't have got rid of Micallef. That was one of the other 4 programmes we found watchable.
