Re: Aussie drivers
Been here coming up 5 years and the standard of driving is without doubt my biggest source of annoyance . . . too many ****wit incidents to mention, but speeding up to prevent others changing lanes REALLY ****s me off.

Re: Aussie drivers
As with discussions about costs here and the crap TV, go and live in Singapore for a while.
Someone tries to kill me on the roads here about once a month on average; there it was closer to once a day. |
Re: Aussie drivers
I can't stand drivers who drive with one hand and hold their water bottle/burger/french fries in the other. Often I slow to a crawl because some inconsiderate twat is too busy eating or drinking to be able to indicate or stay in lane. And they want foreign drivers to resit the driving test.

The majority will refuse to slow down to let you in even when giving plenty of notice. Again most will refuse to stop to allow you out of a junction even when the traffic is crawling and most annoyingly if you let them in they simply refuse to acknowledge the favour. A minor gripe but hey have some manners on the roads folks.
When I learnt to drive in the UK, I was told "if in slow-moving traffic, try not to block junctions". When I mentioned this to the instructor when I was having refresher lessons here in Perth, I was told not to do that as, "It will make the people behind you angry and might cause road rage. Noone expects you to do it." |

Re: Aussie drivers
It fu**cks me right off that the "highways" have speed limits as low as 80km/hr, it fu**s me off even more when Bruce sits in the outside lane in his Toyota Prado dawdling along at 65km/hr obvlivious to the world.
As someone said, be sober and under the limit and no one cares what else you do. Oh for the days of making sure you stayed under 90mph. |

I think that something like 75% of cars here are automatic which means people dont actually drive, rather point the car roughly in the direction they want to go and proceed completely oblivious to anything going on around them.
In the Uk the proportion is the other way round. With a manual car you at least have to pay some attention and be a little bit more aware. In Qld at least the authorities really don't care how you drive as long as you are under the speed and alchohol limit. If they did care then driver training would be far more stringent. There would also be some sort of MOT test Another thing is 4 litre standard car and 200 horsepower with rear wheel drive and 18yr old driver is not really a happy mix.

Driving is the single thing I dislike about living here.
It probably gets better in other places around Oz but here driving is a chore and a constant source of annoyance. The thing is, most of the hassle is avoidable with a bit of patience, respect and common sense. 3 months eh? I've been here nearly 7 years and it still winds me up. Sydney was an eye opener  Brisbane is tame compared to. |

Brisbane is tame compared to. And this was just last night on part of the horror that is the Pacific Motorway http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/quee...214-1oumz.html We were probably 30 minutes behind this madness. Phil Down Under And Up His Arse doesn't cover this kind of thing ... |
