The reduction of british applicants were mostly due to the csl exclude trade occupation. I think the drop in british is only temporary and once diac start trade occupation, the british should again be no 1.

I doubt it. The numbers just don't add up for the Brits to emigrate to Australia any more. There is only so much of a lifestyle hit you are willing to take for warm weather!

I wouldn't be so sure. The small suggestion "I might be coming home" still causes the same usual stunned reactions of "why?" "who'd want to leave such a lovely place?" "why on earth come back here?" "Australia has to be the best place in the world" etc etc. I think the idea of Australia being akin to paradise is still so deeply ingrained in a lot of British minds that it would take a major tsunami drowning the place to convince them otherwise.

(and even then they'd probably stlll want to come, they'd just see it as having a larger pool in the garden than they expected )

The gov made the changes to New Zealand emigration because of the back door for other migrants to get into Australia easily. I worked with someone whose whole family emigrated through NZ as they were not eligible to come to Aus.

There has always been an exchange of people from NZ to Aus and vice versa not everyone thinks places are paradise, some people are down to earth and think about getting a job they like with the right salary and then all the rest will fall into place. I know it was our priority wherever it may have been.

Bit of an insult to third world countries to call NZ "third world".
How ignorant is that?!

Clearly you haven't spent a great deal of time there. I have. There are some (North island Maori) towns that have scant electricity and the homes have mud floors. Even my apparently well-off in-laws had no heating at all in their wooden home and an outside toilet.

It has no motorway network and no rail network to speak of. The only link between the second largest city in NZ (Christchurch) and it's nearest urban neighbour (Dunedin) is a single-lane-each-way road. You can't take a train, because there aren't any.

Many third world countries (eg India) have better transport infrastructures than that.

I suggest you revisit New Zealand again with more open eyes.
Yes, there is some poverty in NZ, as there is some poverty in most countries.
But most NZ'ers have a great standard of living. And with the small population of NZ, which makes it a special place to live, there is no need for expensive rail or uncecessary motorways. And comparing a sparsely populated area such as the South Island to densely populated India is a bit weak. There are actually Rail networks in both Auckland and Wellington.
Yes I am a kiwi and I have been lucky enough to live in both UK, Australia and have travelled extensively around India, something that most third worlders would never dream of having the chance to do.

Auckland is a shithole. Probably 1m people with an infrastructure for half of that. We were there 5 years ago and were driving into the city from the north, trying to get to the airport. It was a Sunday morning and the roads were really busy. There were no signs for the airport, actually there was one - 300m before the turnoff. The airport (which is a pretty major one) is reached by a series of suburban roads - all of them really busy.

Yep, NZ is borderline 3rd world.

That's a bit harsh, I stayed in Auckland when validating my Aussie PR and I quite liked it

Has to be a tragedy based on this story....

Especially for the local men here.

http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2007/...696214489.html

Only country in the world where the Women are more promiscuous then the men.

So the old Aussie adage, that I've heard quite a few times does ring true...

How do you confuse a NZ women.... "Honey I'm home"
