Are you saving yourself for the ultimate profundity?

Stanton made himself abundantly clear. Would I piss on him if he was aflame? If he could bring himself to ask nicely.

The person is an idiot. If you weren't a pom then they'd find some other reason to give you gip. My advice is to pull them aside at the top of a flight of stairs, position yourself right, then give them a shove.

For what it's worth, in my experience. Poms do well here. We love accents (except kiwi one's which makes my missus life hard .... but in NZ Aussies have it harder ).

Guess it's take the good with the bad.

My guess is that your nemisis feels threatened?

Good luck and I hope it works out for you real soon. You shouldn't have to put up with this

Hmmmmm....

I think the families of 22 million dead people would beg to differ that there is, "nothing unusual about that".

Persons of limited intellect, and you have obviously shown yourself to be one of these people, should remember this.

It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I started my first job in Australia 4 weeks ago. I have been amazed at how genuinely helpful and friendly the people i work with are. I have not felt any animosity towards me and i really appreciate their attitude. There is one woman i do not click with but i think its just a personailty clash and has nothing to do with where i come from. We are both aware of it, yet we are always pleasant and polite as we both realise we are grown ups and need to work together. In fact, i think we are probably warming towards each more each day.
As with most cenarios in life, its YOUR attitude that dictates how you will be treated on the whole. If you look to be offended you will be. I have always been very easy going and open with people and more often than not i get treated well. Of course THere is always an idiot to try and spoil your day, but hey!..they only get what they are hoping for if you allow them to upset you. My motto is laugh in their face suck it up. They will get bored very quickly if they dont get a bite.

I will also add that Aussie humour is rife in our office and i spend a lot of my day laughing.

Nah .. shove 'em down the stairs. If they make it uninjured you can give them a boot on their way up (can you tell that I used to be a bouncer?)

Hello,

It is probably just a one off. When I first went to England (Birmingham) I used to get a lot of derogatory remarks. When I moved to London 3 years later it wasn't so bad.

Having moved to Australia I've not had any (yet).

I think it just depends on the time, the place and the person you are talking to.

Alistair

Hello,

I think most were of Irish/Cockney descent - hence the current accent (and the term Anglo-Celtic).

I think the English get more abuse for later abuses.

All of them? Regardless of their geographic origin and/or social background? There is no one single "Pom" accent, y'know. Unless you think that Geordies, Cockneys, Scousers, Brummies, Cornishmen (just to give a few examples) all sound "stuck up" to you.

Hmm, try being South African! give 'em a few drinks and they obviously think you are going to agree with every racist comment they make. It's happened a couple of times with my husband (but never with me). He said that sometimes he cannot believe the things that come out of people's mouthes. He now tells them that they could be arrested in SA for making a statement like that!
