What are Australians like towards English People? I know there is banter such as 'Pommies' and what not, but are they fed up with the large british community or are they fine with it? Thanks.

I haven’t noticed any resentment to UK people at least not white ones! There is some resentment from some against Chinese and Indian migrants though from some people.

Hi, not sure if helpful but as an Aussie having lived in UK for many years just want to say that i think if you are from Scotland you will be fine. Aussies do like taking the Mickey out of people from UK but generally it’s meant the same way as people iin Scotland may take the >>>>>> out of people from America. I’d like to say England but maybe step too far! Also a surprisingly large number of Australians have Scottish heritage and will love to chat about it.

The days of Pom baiting, I'd suggest has largely passed. The UK population is in decline and ageing. Immigration is at record levels but from developing world countries. This nation has changed beyond recognition. Not every body is happy with reset in national identity and changes that has brought about.

I'd say being British would be at worst be viewed with an indifference and best by many as more desirable than some being allowed in. Best to think well though, if this is really the country preferred to be in. One feels that we are not too far behind the worst aspects of UK, but not necessarily up with the more positive aspects.
Australians are far more compliant and less outspoken than often assumed. Possibly main problem could well be making any meaningful contact with Aussies, than any resentment being a Brit.

From my experience, being in the major cities such as sydney or melbourne, i felt no one really cared. Plus you probably meet a brit everyday through one way or another. Brisbane was a little different. It was more noticeable, but it can work in your favour. I've never really had a problem other than a few isolated experiences.
You always get the usual comments - oh you must love the queen (now king), or you don't speak like 1950's movies why not, or you must complain a lot being a pom.... etc etc but its never meant anything.

Generally 'fine with it' unless is comes to sport, The Ashes particularly.

As long as you keep your mouth shut and dont go on about "back home we...." or "in UK they do ...." you wont cop anything. Someone might comment on a strong accent more as a curious thing than anything malicious. The "British community" isnt a thing like the Lebanese community or the Italian community because being British isnt really encouraged as a cultural group unlike the others, there arent British areas like there are Chinese areas or ME areas as a general rule, we are much more absorbed into the diaspora.

There was a time in the early 1960's during the White Australia Policy when only white settlers were permitted to migrate to Australia (we qualified) and so the main arrivals were those from the United Kingdom. There was a perception from the Aussies that the 'English' did not shower very often, unlike the Aussie who showered on a daily basis and thus the derogatory remarks about the stinking Poms.

I recall when serving in the Australian Air Force in the early 1960's there was a large scale recruitment of ex Royal Air Force direct from the United Kingdom and on arrival and being posted to an operational Australian Air Force Unit they would go on about how "We didn't do it this way in the RAF" and that did not go down well with the average Aussie and once again the term, 'The Winging Pom' and the reply "Well mate if you don't like it then FOff to where you came from."

However, than was in the 1960's, times have changed and Australia is supposed to be a 'multicultural society' and given the problems associated with those arriving from the middle eastern hell holes, the arrival of your average migrant from 'Pommy Land' is the least of Australia's problem.

Bear in mind though, whilst the politicians and the wokies go on about successful multiculturalism, there are many Australian's who hanker for the days of The White Australia Policy.

Generally speaking, no-one gives a monkeys if you are British.
However certainly amongst older Aussies, and even more so those raised in the more regional/remote areas, there is still often an underlying suspicion, sometimes building to hostility. I am talking mainly about Queensland here, including Brisbane. As well as some older people I came into contact with through family, I worked in a government department where there were some disgraceful attitudes - many of which were voiced openly during Covid. The department had several Brits in high positions, yet those in the middle were openly racist (and sexist), and the Brits copped it along with the rest. Serious discussions on whether we could all be stripped of Aus citizenship or visas and sent "home" took place regularly during covid. One highly educated colleague of mine, with whom I'd worked for years, even suggested people who were born in Aus should be deported if their parents were immigrants. He actually told me to " **** off home " as it was ****s like you who brought covid to the country".
I often used to reflect that if Brits got comments like that, how much worse must it be for many other races, who are now migrating to Aus in greater numbers than us.

In 13 years there didn't receive much myself, cricket aside.

The Mrs got F off home a few times.

The kids got a bit of stick at school.. One was mimicked each day with a Dick Van Dyke poor cockney accent... He then mimicked an Indian kid and got suspended for being racist. Was told mimicking the poms was fair game.

It definitely happens.
