what happens if you can't afford that? A lot of people will eventually at some point or another come unstuck. Wonder what we'll do? Can't ship medications in, we'll be like Jacko and get done for 'trafficking'!

Interestingly tho Cameron's eczema cleared up whilst we were in aus. Their asthma was obviously still there, but had definately improved. Thanks for taking the time to look for me. I'll have to make sure I set aside enough money for all of this!

At my last asthma clinic, the doc said it would probably clear up in Perth as it is a drier heat, and not so much pollution. Hoping eczma and high BP will go to, and while we are at it, my arthritis!!

what are we like hey? my asthma only reappeared in aus when we were at the Blue Mountains and the temp took a sudden dive. Fingers crossed the heat does the trick!

Im sure they have a website,healthepharmacy.com.au maybe you might be able to get some prices from there?
Hope this helps anyway ;)

Donna.

thyroxine could be down as levothyroxine
combivent - could be duovent
becotide - could be beclometasone dipropionate
eumovate - same as clobetasone butyrate

:)

thank you! Just done a search and found most of them. All bloody expensive. Can't even go down the alternative therapy route as we've been there and done that (and suffered inbetween)!

There is something called the Health safety net, when you return go into medicare and they will give you a form each time you get a prescription its added to a cost and once you reach the limit, its about $874 and then you pay $4.80.

Health care card is for people earning less than $36,000, its amazing how many people have them, the docs get really fed up with it, many who have them dont qualify  however but its a good scheme for those who are in genuine need and they only pay a minimal amount for prescriptions.

I always had to pay for prescriptions until last year when they diagnosed hypothyroidism (no other symptoms apart from feeling shattered all the time). I was gobsmacked when the doc gave me a form for free scripts!

At least there is a safety net over there, be it an abused one by the sounds of it.

Amount is once you spend over $874, you get scripts for $4.80, there was talk of much higher limits and is due for review each year.

There are always so many things to consider, aren't there. If it makes it any easier, $874 is about $2.40 a day, $16.75 a week, $73 a month.

Now, if you had a job paying around approx say $20,000 a year gross, this would equate to one days' net pay per month.........rough calculations, but hopefully people will understand where I'm coming from.

Of course this won't be forever, as your little ones will grow up and pay for their own meds at some stage. :)

Well to be honest I paid full prescription charges here in the UK until I got diabetes (all free now), and I must have paid a fair bit in prescription charges, so the $874 ceiling is quite good news to me because I expected to pay lots more than that.
The main thing I,m worried about is other charges, like paying to see an Endo, or Doctor and god knows how much the annual full check-up will cost, other things such as eye screening which I think will be costly over there.
but it's not as if I dont know in advance and I will be doing abit of searching to find the relevant costs.

I know what you mean. I remember paying over £86 one month cos my chest was bad and I needed loads of steroids etc making the most of my free scripts while I can!

Myself & my youngest are asthmatic, both on ventolin,& Seretide Inhaler (this one needs a script )& costs me $28 for one 60dose inhaler.I have to buy 2 of these every month for us :( Ventolin ranges from $5-$9 per inhaler,Dont know how much the nebules would cost? I'm also on continus tablets price ranges from $17-$11 for 100 tabs (every six weeks)
Ive started getting all my prescription stuff from the EPharmacy, cheapest prices i have found so far.
You pay for prescription drugs kids & adults, find a medical centre that bulk bills everything & at least you wont have to pay to see the doctor.

Donna.

HI Donna

My youngest who is 3 suffers from Asthma. He uses a preventative inhaler brown that contains steroids in morning and at night. And has a blue inhaler when he is poorly ie a cold. The doctors are unsure whether to call it asthma as he only suffers when he has a cold. We were hoping it may get better when we move to gold coast/brisbane in May but then I heard the humidity makes it even worse for people with asthma. Can you shed any light on this please!! It has also been suggested to me he may outgrow this around 7?

thanks

Nicola

As it happens I am lucky not to need either anymore. My asthma has gone which I suppose is the change of climate.

My son is on the same inhalers hes 3. Was your inhaler usage linked to your getting lots and runny noses and coughs?

thanks

thanks
