Perhaps the writer should have a browse through some of the posts on this forum to get a different perspective on employment in Australia.

So there's plenty of work for graduates but there's no real way for a graduate to get a PR visa. Nice helpful article

I've just "had my say" asking them how much research they really did for that article. I noticed that one of the positive comments was from someone promoting "down-under expos" - well that's not exactly an unbiased opinion is it ?? More punters wanting to move means more profits for them.

My say hasn't been published yet.
Don't think it will be either. Don't think they'll appreciate me calling their article a crock of....

Does somebody in the UK sit on the toilet and pump out these articles:curse:.
I said yesterday, how long before we have a down under show saying how many jobs there are in OZ, was close, newspaper article instead.
Tempted to "have my say" however I dont think they will print it.

What a load of crap:curse:
This left me fuming, it is incorrect in several places, paints a ridiculous rosy picture. Many graduates have to leave Oz to get a job after qualifying, that might be why there is little unemployment for them! The CSL list does not include some of the professions mentioned and as we all know the migration figures have jsut been cut but did they mention it - no, that would be too realistic.
Have just told them (politely) what I thought of their article but I guess that won't get printed either....

I work for a large IT company that is providing IT services for a large mining company. We cannot get skilled staff and are having to even look to bring people over from the US.

Re: Article in todays Times on employment opportunities
Although the Australian Government actively encourages the migration of workers to the country - and this week announced an immigration target of 115,000 for 2009-2010 - this may not be much help to those just out of university.
However, I actually think that the Times has just stuffed its figures completely.

If you want to view the inaccurate depths to which the Times has now plummeted, read some of the articles by Anatole Kaletsky in the business section.
This guy has been about as accurate in his economic forecasting as Stevie Wonder would be in a game of darts, yet, bizarrely, still has a job. He has been lampooned in Private Eye for his incompetence.
