It is if you have a car. We didn't when we lived there and the bus takes forever to get to City, Chermside etc. Of course if you don't need to get to those places there is Kippa Ring Shopping Centre, Morgans Seafood in Scarborough, the lagoon, a whale watching boat from the pier, Redcliffe hospital, tons of RSL and Leagues clubs etc and lots of parks along the waterfront. You could if you wanted never leave Redcliffe I suppose. We actually had our family Christmas party in one of the BBQ areas on Margate waterfront one year. My husband was really feeling the heat so walked (fully clothed!) into the water up to his neck to cool down! So parts of the shoreline are also swimmable even though they are not Surfers Paradise! |
Re: Around Brissy
Compared to the sh**hole I live in now. Redcliffe is paradise!
Sue p.s. My 12 year old daughter says Redcliffe is minted (that means its good) |

That is why we didn't even consider it this time round. The lagoon is good in Redcliffe but Sandgate wins in terms of housing, town centre (there are still proper old fashioned shops!) and proximity and accessibility to the city.

Re: Around Brissy
Have been following the thread and thought I would add my thoughts. I live in Burpengary and love it, we have 2 acres which is great for our three dogs and we have a pool, which is a dream fulfilled. Anyway we are 5 minutes drive to the train station which takes me straight into the city and there is free parking at the train stations. Also we are close to the Bruce highway so a run to the airport, sunshine or gold coasts are so easy and for shopping we have the Morayfield shopping centre just up the road as well as a good selection of shops in Burpengary itself.
I have visited Redcliffe and found it a bit crowded although I have to say there is nothing like eating and drinking at Sams on Sutton Beach. Having a cold one and looking out over the water - this is Australian life. Went to Bribie Island last week and walked the dogs at Red Beach - loved it, we almost had the place to ourselves and the dogs could run free off their leads. Enough of my rantings I love this wonderful place and wouldn't be anywhere else. I consider myself very lucky that I get to live in Australia at all and even better that I can live in the Brisbane area. |

We are in the UK, visited in June. Glad you like it, we didn't. In fact we were generally disappointed with SE Qld (we thought Brisbane was a hole), much preferred Western Australia & have now decided to settle there instead. |

Re: Around Brissy
Redcliffe reminds me of small British seaside resorts. It can hardly be compared beachwise with the rest of the QLD coastline, surfless, flat, coarse and shelly sand. Whilst the lagoon is 'nice' it compares poorly to South Bank, although the new fake grass is better than the tatty old stuff.
In my opinion, I wouldn't pay extra to get a seaview around bayside Brisbane. What's the point of living by the 'beach' when you still have to travel an hour to get to a decent surf beach? |
