Hiya

We're a little further down the line regarding ADF Transfers - we've got our Visa and just waiting for September now to go! Hubby also LT in RN - Joining as LT in RAN. It's improved since we started the process - we had no interviews etc - all done via email and post.

The only interview we had was a telephone one with the DCO regarding our phsycological status!!! Got through that one OK - nothing too bad!! Considering! LOL

Anyway, best of luck to all!!!!!!!!!

Hi there ex CT where you being stationed? any Navy or Army going to Sydney area? I am off to HMAS WATSON but it would be great to mix and meet other military as I think we all have the same sort of humour!

We were going to bail out of the move as we are really nervous and it is the unknown and whats the transition like and is their forces smiliar (spelling)?

We are going as a coulpe as daughter 21 and settled in uk at mo, the only reason I say that is that mrs will be home alone until she finds job and dont want her thinking things, so it will be nice to meet other wifes (although we dont normaly do that thing, but its all new).

Thanks All

KIM ALAN

If all goes well you should be done within 12 months and I thought it was an easy process looking back on it. They need us, theres about 500 on the books and by taking ex RN they are saving shed loads. Good luck

Hi Josie1100,

Alan is being drafted to Kuttibal, but is going to be on loan at HMAS WATSON. We fly out on 19 July as we have said and are now looking forward to it. We are still trying to find somewhere to live but the MQs they have sent seem really nice. We are going as a couple and are daughter will join us later. Are you with family? We also live in Plymouth, Ivybridge and are on 07743886164 if you would like to have a chat, as it will be nice to make friends in a new country and we can share information on the move etc. Hope you dont find this to forward and all the best Kim and Alan.

I have read through some of these posts and have a few questions. We went to Oz house for our interview in Oct 05! Got a provisional yes subject to a further medical that had to be done last month. We are waiting for the doctors report to send it off. Have said there is no prob just need proof OH is ok.

My question is, what happens next? we need police checks and myself and kids need medicals. When where and how do we go about doing this? Do we wait until we are asked to get them or do it ourselves?

Also what is the general process? and timeline, is it any quicker than the civilian route?

I have loads more questions but will wait 'till we get OH medical out the way

Thank
Jo

There are quite a few people on here who have made the same move, from different backgrounds and to various Australian locations. Understandably a lot of people prefer to communicate via PM and may prefer not to hand out lots of identifying personal information.

To answer your questions though, OH & I are not married and it didn't cause us any problems. He too is an officer. He had to give 12 months notice to leave his previous post.

Medicals - use the immigration website to find the list of certified practitioners, then ring one and book your medicals. Be aware prices vary quite considerably - do a search, you will find lots of threads on it.
Police checks - go to your local station and ask, there will be a form to fill out and it costs about £10 I think. Takes 40 days. Again, do a search & you will find lots more info.
HOWEVER be careful - if you get these things done too far in advance then they can 'run out' and leave you either with very little time or with no option but to get them done again, which is expensive & a waste of time.
I would wait until you have the official green light re OH's med, then go ahead with them.
I've never applied via a civvie route, but my impression is that it is much faster thru the ADF. E.g. we sent our forms off for visas and got the ok in about 4 weeks. Much faster than some others on here applying via different routes. Then another week to actually get the magic stickers in our passports. But you can still expect LOTS of paperwork, so get used to that!

Thanks for that, hopefully we will get the ok soon and really get the ball rolling. Will wait until we get the outcome of the medicals is known until we do anything. Thanks again, I will be back soon with lots more questions

What's the score on citizenship with this route then? Are you being granted it straight away or are they waiving the security clearance issues related to that?

Just asking as I am looking at DSTO and it's unclear about whether they are allowed to employ me due to being British (at least at first!).

The serving member and any dependents under 18 get citizenship after three months - far sooner than anyone else. The spouse, or dependents over 18, must wait for the usual period; but as they are permanent residents immediately that currently means two years. (Or four years if they change(d) the rules on that, I'm not sure).
For the serving member Australian citizenship is actually compulsory, not just an option.
