Applying for jobs....
Just how easy is it to gain employment in Australia when still living here in the UK? Its not as if i could "pop over" for an interview!!!!!!!
I have just started to send my resume off to a number of employers in the hope that i get a look in, or at least an e-mail or even a phone interview.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Unless you have something they are desperate for, and even then it sometimes makes no difference, they seem to take the approach of see you when you get here. Plenty of jobs about though in all sorts. But bring some spare cash as they don't respond quickly or give out mixed signals about how you've done or just don't tell you anything at all... .
Don't let that put you off is still worth coming... .

Hiya,
I tried that - its a waste of time sending your CV in advance. I don't think they actually believe you are coming until you can give them a date of your arrival! I had no luck at all until I actually booked my flight - then I was able to arrange 2 interviews within my first week of being here, and was working in 3 weeks.
My advice - keep an eye on the job market, familiarise yourself with who in business in the area you want to move to, get lists of agencies etc., and when you've got your visa and your arrival date - bombard them like mad and try and arrange interviews.
Good luck!!

P.S. Also look at job requirements in the ads - a lot of them only hire Aussie citizens, so dont waste your time on companies that require security clearances.

I've pretty much given up now, until I actually arrive in the new year and get an Aussie address. It takes ages to do a proper job application for eduction and higher education, and I think I'd rather not waste the time while I'm here, as it just leads to nowhere!

Agree to everything here ...
I've floated my resume off to countless prospective employers and altho' the majority are interested, the stock answer is ... "Give us a call when you land!"
There's work out there ... so don't be too despondent

Re: Applying for jobs....
Agree - they prefer you in oz. When you apply for a job through mycareer for eg - generally you have to go to the recruitment agency (if applicable) so they can suss you out and see it they want to put you forward for the job. Then they usually want you to also meet the manager of the recruitment agency too!! but all depends on what type of job you go for. My advise is to apply for loads of job as does take time to get a job and also closing dates for jobs can be a month or so. Took me 7 weeks from start to finish to get a job and apparently thats not too bad - but did think it would be easier than it was.
Good luck

I suppose you've got to look at it from their point of view. Would you hire someone who is on the other side of the world? More to the point - would you want to work somewhere you've never seen or met the boss?
Still - I've emailed a couple of agencies in the past with my CV and received encouraging noises so hopefully won't be too much of a problem getting work.

Marco,
Completely agree with you, my hubby has sent his CV off to quite a few different companies, that were interested in him at the London Expo few months ago. They are all very keen, but are unable to physically do anything until we get there. They have said as soon as you land, let us know. So lookin quite promising but we'll see.

Re: Applying for jobs....
I dont think it does any harm sending your cv off to potential employers. I spent a week looking up companies that i wanted to work for in Brisbane, did lots of background research then sent my cv off to 4 companies and a lot of recruitment consultants.
I got a positive response from one company then had a phone interview which was very bizarre and was lucky enough to get offered my present job.
