ANZ, Westpac or ?
 

Hi, I have used the search function but can I ask your opinions on ANZ or WestPAC? We're starting to look at flights, I've booked our rate with Ozforex but my choice now is Westpac or ANZ.

I read about WESTPAC and ANZ, I notice that ANZ isn't mentioned much here but the few posts I have read are very positive and mention the lack of charges and a card for buying things in shops.

Sorry to be a bit vague but our toddler is an insomniac!! :(

Many thanks, can I ask you about bank charges with ANZ?

What card do you use to shop with? Do they give you a debit card or do you have a credit card?

We are with Westpac in Maroochydore and they have been absolutely excellent. We went round about 4 different banks and they were the best. We have an account that charges us a monthly fee of $5 for unlimited transactions and our savings account doesn't charge and the rate of interest is I think 6.05%.

At the minute I have two accounts with them. I have a normal everyday account that costs $5 a month (although I only get charged it every once every three months when they send me a statement, shhhh don't tell them :D ). With this account I have an EFTPOS card, which is used like a debit card here. It's free withdrawals from any ANZ bank, which is OK cos they are everywhere!. It costs $1.50 if I use any other bank, but you don't need to do that as you can just go buy a paper or soemthing and get cashback (not everywhere has cashback, but you soon get used to who has)

I also have a Visa Debit card, which is like a CC but it's our money instead of the banks, that one is $6 a month.

I also have an account with ING direct linked to my main account which holds our savings and attracts 6% interest. It takes about 2 - 3 days for money to be transferred from one to the other.

I have just applied for an offset mortgage with The Rock bank in Queensland, so all this will probably change sometime soon. I will be keeping an account open with ANZ though, at least for a while.

Hi, I don't use either Westpac or ANZ, so can't really comment, however most accounts, you will have an Eftpos card which is a bit like a debit card, but has a limit of $1,000 per day. I personally use HSBC, simply because there are no bank fees. I use this is as my day to day account, and have it linked to ING for my savings. With HSBC, I have an Eftpos card and a Debit Card. The difference is you can use the debit card up to the available funds in your account, whereas Eftpos, you are limited to $1,000 a day. I also have a Virgin credit card, which again has no fees attached to it.

You can request the limit is upped though. Handy for the first few months ;)
