ANZ Bank
ANZ Online is great - if you have a couple of accounts and a credit card you can do nearly all your banking stuff without having to go inside a branch.
Which is just as well - because their customer service is shite.
They let me down every time:
- Went into a branch to make an appointment to see a mortgage specialist on 3 separate occasions recently and still unsuccessful (people on leave, fully booked, excuses, excuses, etc. etc.)
- Got some NZ dollars for Christmas visit to Christchurch and when I went back the next day to ask if I could change the $100 notes they'd given me to $50's they said they didn't have them. I heard a guy ask for NZ dollars at a different till and hung around to see what happened. And saw them counting out $50's.
- Waiting in line for ages to speak to customer services until finally got fed up after 10 minutes and walked out as someone come out of a back office and asked the guy who'd been waiting behind me if they could help him
- Being wished "good luck" when I explained that I wanted to speak to a certain person but only had the branch phone number. There then followed a procession of calls to other numbers to other numbers to back around to where I started
- General "can't do" attitude of the staff (Computer says nooooooo!)
...and so on.
I suppose people could tell similar stories about other banks.
Anyway, very annoying.
Big.

Re: ANZ Bank
I've only had one member of staff at our local branch be unhelpful, she was fine the next time though My OH said she must have had PMT that time
Other than that I've got nothing but good things to say about them.

Re: ANZ Bank
Yep we bank with them too and have only found helpful - especially girls in branch! Guess it's the luck (or bad luck) of the draw/branch!
It's a shame isn't it when generally they're good and then obviously this area has completely let the rest down for you!

My favourite rant - ANZ!!
They are truly shocking - never mind computer says no, they have to clear everything through Melbourne and it's normally 'Melbourne says noooo'....shrug......cough!!

Our experience has been good with ANZ, but then our local branch down the road is only small and never many people in there
The worst thing is phone banking and trying to get them to understand what you're asking - does my head in big time!!!!!! But luckily dont have to ring too often...
We did our mortgage all online, only had to go into the branch to get the cheques to pay the builders.

ANZ are fu***ing awful.
customer service is is a joke and the cusomter charter doesn't resemble anything like the service you get.
We are owed 88 dollars after an ongoing complaint about their hidden charges when you set things up over the phone, but if you do it all online its free - and yet they don't tell you any of this on the phone.
We are still waiting for the 88 dollars, even though we have a letter from them stating they are going to pay it....
but who else fo you go to? All Aussie banks are sh*te

I found Commonwealth absolutely awful, and I'm sure some people will disagree (although I know a lot will agree!)
I guess it's just the luck of the draw.

Re: ANZ Bank
It's crap when you get treated like that but I could only say good things about them in Brisbane and Darwin. In Brisbane if I had a problem I would often go in on-spec and see one particular person. But if I couldn't see her, other staff have always been helpful. I've dealt with different things via email and phone and had decent service every single time.
I went into the Darwin branch yesterday to change our address and some other admin and it was all done with no fuss.

Re: ANZ Bank
Just telling my wife about this post and she tells me that all banks in Australia are rubbish. When she worked for one of the banks in a call centre in Launceston they had more training than the staff on the counters.
So maybe better to use the call centres to get things sorted.
