Hello to you all,

Townsville's certainly a popular destination at the moment! My wife, our 3 year old boy and myself will be arriving there on 25th February and we can't wait.

I will be working for a local project management company whilst my wife will be socialising and spending my money.

I visited Townsville in August this year and found it to be a very clean and friendly town with lots of facilities for the family. The weather is great too.

My wife and I are both from the Blackpool region, however we have been away from the UK for the last 10 years. We are both very keen to meet up with any fellow brits to exchange migration stories and advice.

We should set up a meet on the Strand as soon as Ouella and the Fillinghams arrive!

Sara, If your offer is open to other newcomers I think my wife will be very keen to get in touch with you when we arrive.

Cheers,

T8HK

Hi Ouella

im a nurse at townsville hospital, been here 15mths now, we came on sponsored visa too, i would have to say though, there are rough areas around pimlico high school, i.e vincent, garbutt and currajong, they do have a high crime rate there as they have alot of community houses.
kirwan is lovely, again alot of crime, but like anywhere it has nice areas and dodgy areas.
west end is nice, but you have to be careful as some of west end merges into the not so nice areas of garbutt.
Pimlico does have a good reputation and achieved the highest grades last year in all the high schools in townsville.
if i can help further just pm me, if you would like to meet up and have a guided tour of the hospital or townsville its no problem.
Ive done this before a few times...A team will back me up there.
enjoy your last cold winter!!

Hello Fillinghams,

Yes thanks, it would be great to meet up. Our son Oliver will 3 on the 20th of March. When is your sons birthday?

We will be arriving on the 25th of February and we can't wait. I've been having a few sleepless nights recently thinking about the shippers and all the things I've still not sorted out. Argh!! I must try to get myself a bit more organised.

When do you arrive?

Goodluck with your move.

Cheers

Amanda. (At least you won't forget my name!! )

Can't say I am enjoying it...had to use the de-icer at 6:30am...not fun! Thanks for the advice on areas, I think that is our main concern really...but it is helpful to have people there that can give us some tips, thanks again.

Hi, my husband and I are looking at moving to Townsville this year from Liverpool and wanted to get a picture of what attracted all you expats to relocate to Townsville and whether it has lived up to your expectations.

Also, for those of you who have already made the move and didn't have family to stay with, did you have accommodation lined up before you went or did you wait until you landed?

Look forward to hearing your responses.

Thanks

Malton

Hi there

we have been here 15mths now and absolutely love the place.
Townsville pretty much chose us, they offered me a job on their neonatal unit and having looked at the climate, we decided to go for it.
we managed to secure a rental before getting here with the help of friends who live here, alot of realestate agents will let you secure rentals provided you have someone to look round and view for you.
Townsville has fulfilled all our expectations and more, its an amazing place for young, old, families, teenagers etc, the climate all year round is fantastic.
so much is free to enjoy here, water parks, swimming pools etc
The beaches are beautiful and spotless and literally half an hour away are the rainforests and mountains...its a stunning place to live.
People here are very friendly and welcoming, atleast, thats our experience.
we love it here, its not for everyone as it does get hot and humid and its quiet compared to brissie, but its got all a family needs and some.
any more info pm me.

cheers

Trish

Hi Malton,

Just like Jim and Trish, Townsville chose us. It wasn't even on our radar until I got a job offer here.

I was always looking at the usual suspects like Brisbane, Perth, possibly Sydney, however after getting the job offer I came to have a look and found it met all our requirements. Check out the Townsville Enterprise web site for lots more info.

I should add that I have been a frequent visitor to Australia for the last 10 years so was able to compare Townsville to Brisbane, Sydney and a few other smaller cities in Queensland.

We will arrive on 25th Feb and the company has found us a holiday rental for the 1st month. If you don't have something already lined up I think it's easy to book temporary holiday accommodation, (usually 2 bedroom self contained apartments), until you get something more permanent. Although I would always recommend advance booking as you will usually secure the better units at better rates.

Good luck.

Adrian
