Anyone shipped from Germany?
#1
Hi All,
As you can tell we are trying to get our contents over to Brisbane but leaving from Germany. I have had plenty of quotes from shipping companies but... they want nearly £7000 for a 20' container.
Now I have been reading on here of quotes other people have received and so therefore had a pretty good idea on how much we would have to pay.
I know this is a long shot but has anyone else left from Germany, who could recommend a decent shipping company?
Thanks in advance
Gill

Hey Gill,
first question, where do you live in Germany?
We used a company called Max Jacobi, based in Hamburg. We've done several moves with them to diffrent parts of the world and they were always excellent. No hidden cost, no surprises after delivery and brilliant/friendly service.
They do shipping around the world and even if you're not happy with their local partner, they will do their best to suit your requirements (e.g. we were not happy with Wridgeways here in Oz ... they are b....y bastards and very very unserious ...).
However, because they are based in Hamburg, I am not sure how it will work with the inspection of your goods (they do it because they want to make sure that a 20' container is fine and what sort of goods you want to ship) but may it is worthwile to contact them and just ask (which is still free of charge
).
If you want to drop me a PM I can give you a few names in their organisation for further contact.
By the way, I would think 7k GBP are a little bit high but you may need to prepare yourself for 7k Euro ... it's a move on the other side of the world and it takes easily 8 weeks.
I'd also like to add that it doesn't make sense to go with one of the 'cheap' movers because most of them will come back to you with extra charges because the exchange rates have changed or they will ask for more money because the delivery guys have to take your stuff an extra 10 stairs into your property or something like that.
Stay out of trouble ..
Cheers
