anyone scared!!!!!

we have exchanged contracts on our house and have to be out on the 22nd may, our agent has said that it could be a possibility that we will hear something this week or next week. we are going to stay at my mums as she is going on holiday for the whole of june so we have been left to look after the dogs. we will be booking our flights as soon as we hear from the DIMIA.

now that things are actually moving, i am feeling physically sick, i am worrying about us getting jobs (how easy is it - even if you dont take the trade you have applied for?????). we will be left with about 30k once all the debts are cleared. WILL THIS BE ENOUGH!!!

I am getting cold feet not because i dont want to go its just all the uncertainty. is anyone experiencing those same feelings. just feel like crying at the moment. perhaps some of it is pmt though.

any responses would be greatly appreciated.

If its any consolation we all feel like that. But we get on that plane and go for it. You are not alone and we are all on here to help.

You have a great life to look forward to :) it will be what ever you want it to be. The people over here really do go out of their way to help.

Oh yeah, I felt sick, I wasn't sleeping, I would wake up every morning with a huge lurching stomach.... I had doubts...We bought 40K after everything was paid off (It's still in the bank)...
Read this and you'll see I had exactly the same feelings...

But that's ok. You'll get here and after a couple of weeks when you're in and settled, you'll be ok. :)

Hi Louise!
We are about 2 months behind you - and I am seriously worrying about what we are doing (we have'nt even got our house on the market yet)! But how can you not be worried - this has to be the biggest thing you have done before, it certainly is for us!
Don't forget you are leaving all your comfort zones - job, friends, house etc but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't go - a good tip I realised on expats is that you don't hear all the time from the people who love it out there because they are too busy living their new lives and loving it!
I have made a mental note when we get out there to just try and keep an open mind - some things will be different in a negative way, but others in a positive way - and as everyone says - you can always come back.
Good luck with everything - I am sure you will be fine, it's certainly an adventure and good on you for doing it.
best wishes

Re: anyone scared!!!!!

thank you all for your words of support, its been a real crap day, i was feeling pretty low anyway and wanted to iron out a few discrepancies with our removal people (wont mention any names - none of the ones that are normally mentioned on here so dont panic) as they had missed quite a bit off our itinery and didnt want to be stung with a heavier bill when they come in on friday ( my gut instinct told me to go with pickfords as they were so calm and professional) the company in question all but called me a liar and said that his estimator couldnt possibly forget all that on the list (about 10 boxes short to be exact and said it would probably cost a further £360). Needless to say i left the removal place more stressed and upset than i had previously. phoned hubby and he went to see the company in question and told them not to bother turning up on friday, cause they had upset me so much. luckily enough pickfords agreed to do the removal for friday for us, thank god. i feel moving is stressful enough as it is without some jumped up little fart telling me i am a liar. anyway thanks again for all your words of support.

Hiya

Cacking it myself today hun and I too feel like crying. Change my mind a few times a day at the mo. Heading out on my own with my little boy and three dogs. Just hope I'm doing the right thing just know I would regret not doing it. Although will probably have an ulcer by the time I get there!!

All the best with the move

Hi Louise

Application went in mid March, Agents advised to sort meds and police checks  Just getting the money together at the mo, MOT took the last lot and now the boiler is leaking :scared: Not coping at the mo.

Looking at central Queensland, have Aussie friends moving there early next year, just depends where I can get a job!

Just the waiting game killing me I think.

Why do we do this to ourselves

hi louise , i feel exactly the same we got our tra back last week got accepted put our house on the market 2 days later and when the board appeared in the garden my bottle totally went, i cried as soon as i saw it and kept thinking to myself why am i putting us all through this my life isnt that bad really and the kids love the life they have i felt terrible , then i sat down with my husband and started to think back to why we started to think about it in the 1st place i know we are doing the right thing but you cant help the way you feel i just dont want any regrets later i know deep down that we are doing the right thing for the kids but it doesnt stop me feeling sick so i dont know what i will be like when the house does sell like you i imagine, but i knew it wasnt going to be easy lots of people told me but it will be worth it in the end thats what i keep telling myself anyway , and we have an opportunity that most people would die for so we are grabbing it with both hands but honestly you are not alone we all feel the same there would be something wrong if you didnt have these feelings good luck anyway louise x

I am alternately terrified and excited. Hmmm sometimes not alternately. Sometimes both at the same time.

I have emigrated before (to New Zealand) and not had a good experience so once bitten twice shy and all that.

To quote Todd Flanders -

"Grey skies are going to clear up
So stick out your chin and cheer up"

Hi Louise

Don't worry we feel the same, accepted offer on house last week and been told it could go through anywhere between 6 - 12 weeks eek!!! We have got to move in with the mother in law as not planning to go until end Oct/beg Nov (we have to be in OZ to activate our visas by 20th Dec). All I keep thinking we will be homeless and jobless soon. My husband is in the building so when we arrive in OZ I don't think he will be able to work until end Jan as it seems everything shuts down over Dec/Jan so it looks like I will be the one to find a job straight away while he looks after the kids. It's a very scary time and we keep having sleepless nights and feeling homesick already!!!!

Sallyx :)
