Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Hi,
Brand new to the forum. I am currently in the process of securing a job and my family and I are planning to move to Perth as soon as possible. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can give me a heads up for what areas are good places to live in which are close to schools / shops / parks etc. We are also planning to enrol our daughter into a dance classes as an out of school activity…any advice? Thanks in advance. Neil C :D |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Neil,
We are a family of four going 17th February currently living in Morpeth. Permanent visa 176 and heading north of river to woodvale, once you get enough posts in for PM feel free to drop me a line. There may be info we can help you with, but you will find much of what you need by searching the forum. ;) Good luck with your plans and move. |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Hi Neil
We're hoping to move end of March/1st week in April We're moving to Secret Harbour, it's about 40 minutes from Perth center Sorry can't help with schools and stuff but wish you all the best with your move.............it's all a bit scary! Good Luck Ach |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Thanks everyone.
Just had an interview this morning, and it went pretty well (I think)? Fingers crossed for that one! I'll keep you posted. Cheers Neil :) |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Hi,
We are just starting the visa process too, and looking to live in Perth. We are looking for information very similar to yourselves (including the dance class for our 6 year old). Any information you could pass on our way would be appreciated, sounds like you will get there first. Good luck |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Amberg,
It's a very exciting time...just would like to know either way on where I stand with the job. I've also got 2 recruitment agencies working my corner and spoke to them and both seem pretty sure I can gain employment fairly quickly. Here's hoping! My little girl is 2 on the 19th but loves to dance. It will also encourage an active life style and since the Mrs won't let me play football with her I think it will be great! But I think i'm going to need a lad too. All the best for the future. Neil |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Secret Harbour looks perfect to me to. It is small has both schools near the ocean and inexpensive. I would think it is windy there with the surf beach. We are going to wait to find a suitable area to settle. We are up in Fort McMurray Alberta Canada, it was -29 windchill all day yesterday. You just cannot get outside at all.
|
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
I am moving with my family (7 of us) on a perm 176 to Woodvale. Our flights are booked for the 20th Feb 2010.
Container leaves on Monday and should be ready for delivery by the end of March. Good luck everyone. |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Good luck to all you soon-to-be Perthites.

I'll bet you can't wait to get to Perth. :fingerscrossed: |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Good to see we aren't going to be the only new ones to Perth in the coming months!!
We hope to make the move around March/April time this year (got our 175 visa granted last week) and we also have a 3 year old daughter. We're trying to find suitable areas to move to but need to find a holiday home for the first couple of months. Hoping that'll give us the opportunity to find the kind of suburb that suits ours and our daughters needs. |

Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
We were lucky as moved in with my mother in law. Its a tight fit, but its was the best way to sort everything.
We actually sold our house at the end of last year and have most of our stuff in storage since. The storage is basically just being moved into the container so was easy for the shipping company to cost as we already had the total dimensions of all our stuff. |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Gosh that many people in one house - I dread the thought. Unfortunately we have no family in the UK so that isn't an option for us. Don't think I could burden our mates by asking them if we could move in even for one or two weeks.
Who have you chosen to ship your stuff? Are you using a full 20ft container? How much have you been quoted? I am hoping to make a final decision in the next 2 weeks and it would be helpful to know other peoples price estimates especially since it is the same time of year. Thanks |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Good luck Martin72 especially all of you in with the ML :o
We have had a quote from pickfords for a 20ft for £3800 plus insurance at 2.5% and 407 AUD for the AQIS quartine inspection. Crown are coming next week, i expect a similar ammount just need to get a feel for the service they will give. 7 to 9 weeks door to door, hoping to send our stuff 3 february, have a rental here for two weeks and leave the 17th Feb. |

We are planning on moving back to Perth around that time but I still can't get my head around what we will do once everything is shipped. Was thinking of leaving only a week after shipping so we don't have to "camp" in our own house or eat out too much. I am finding organising it all is getting a bit much.
It's all a bit awkward until your stuff arrives - but you know it's only temporary. |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Lots of new people to Woodvale! Perhaps when you all get here and are a little settled perhaps we could all get together for a mini-meet?
I really like Woodvale. The shops and parks are lovely. Lots of things within walking distance. Not too far from the train or freeway. Good schools.....I could go on! |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
If any of the people coming to Woodvale need any information on the schools here let me know.I have a daughter who will be in year 1 at Woodvale Primary School and a daughter who will be in year 9 at Woodvale SHS.Sue.

Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Feeling really excited now just reading this thread - we got our visa august 2008 and haven;t been on BE since as we couldn't go - house move, money traumas etc - finally going in 11 weeks time!
we went out last easter on a validation trip and stayed inQuinns Rocks - really liked it, but planning on a little further north in Butler. we're booked in our holiday rental from last time for a month with container arriving about a 5/6 weeks after we get there. Can't wait! |

Now im going back out on the 21st Jan and can't wait to get some sun again  We lived in Somerly, Clarkson and it is great up there. Loads of open areas with beautiful water features and a train station within easy reach. The train gets you to the city in about 30 minutes. There is a nursery and plenty local shops. Oh i forgot to say that there is a good pub there too and its also close to the beach and marina. Gets the  from me. Good luck in your decision. |

Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
We're moving on the 20th May. Staying in Tapping for 2 months in a holiday rental. That will hopefully give us enough time to sort out where to live permanently.
We have a 3 year old daughter who likes to tell random strangers that she is moving to Australia. We are looking forward to moving but at the same time I am dreading it as there is so much to do before then! Argh!!:eek::eek: It would be good to keep in touch with our experiences etc as having a network when we all get there will help with settling in etc. :) |
Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
We are a family of 4 heading to perth too!! When the house sells, that is! In fact, when we finally put it on the market, that'll help LOL

Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
It was a bit scary to come over with no job and no schools. We wanted areas with good primary and high schools so we choose a few areas first then drove around to get a feel for the place. We decided on Woodvale and got a rental and then my husband found a job.We bought a house to soon really after 4 months but I though owning a house would make it easier to settle.
The trouble with a place with good schools is the house prices are more and we wanted a pool so had to settle for a three bed one bathroom house which was fine to start with but with three girls it is a bit cramped. We are now thinking of moving but mainly due to the house prices are to expensive for us in Woodvale. At least now you will be coming over in less than a year!Sue. |

Sue in reply to your post about school info any advice would be greatly appreciated. We almost have our visa and hopefully will be over early 2011. We have a 14 yr old who is just about to choose his subjects for gcse and wonder what stage he would be at if we make the move next yr. He has just turned 14. We also have a 5 yr old who is in yr 1 here in the UK so he may be a little ahead of the kids over there as i believe they start school at 6. He is already reading and writing pretty well. Thanks in advance Tracy & Alan  |

I hope you can understand this as I am in a bit of a rush.Hope you get your visa soon as it is such a great feeling to know you can make proper plans.Sue. |

Hi, Secret Harbour is lovely it's got shops, beach, golf course, and schools. It's very much a place for families. Oh and it's very quiet and boring. :D

Re: Anyone recently moved to Perth or planning to?
Hi. We are moving to Perth in June. We initially will be renting in Joondalup only because of recommendation from a friend who lives there. We are then going to get a feel for other areas and looka round schools. We have a 12 year old daughter and 2 sons 9 and 5. There is no high school (state) in Joondalup so prob won't stay there. I haven't organised schools before we go as I wouldn't change schools here without looking around and letting kids look around too.

What a pity we won't be organised this year. As a matter of interest how is Secret Harbour? We haven't decided on an exact area and it depends on jobs too. Woodvale looks nice too. Good luck with your move back to the UK.
