If you were to retrain in a 60 point occupation in Oz, then you can gain extra points just for having an australian qualification, and points if you have studied there for 2 years. You can also gain extra points for state sponsorship, or living in a regional area. I understand that if you go for state sponsorship eg South Australia you may only need 110 points.

They have to show they have advertised it though don't they? I'm sure I saw somewhere that they have to show the regional offices that they had advertised the job.

WOW! It sounds like you and your family have really pulled out all the stops to get to Oz. Its encouraging to hear how far people are prepared to go to achieve their dreams. I hope it is all you dreamed of.

Ive been looking more into screenprinting & it is a very small industry. Although its on the list I think it would be very hard to find work. Having looked at the list, I dont think theres anything on there that appeals to me as far as completely re-training goes. Its a big decision. Its just a shame the age limit is 45 cos my husband used to be a carpenter(many years ago) & would love to get back into that but as he is nearly 43 it wouldnt be in time to emigrate to Oz unfortunately!:(

I wish you all the luck in the world(im sure you wont need it though!).

My husband was a carpenter(many moons ago). He would happily get back into that but his age is now against him(hes nearly 43). I dont see much on the list that I feel I would like to do(or be any good at!). But never say never! We are still considering ALL options.

Thanks! I'll have to look into that. I wasnt aware it was possible to get in with less points than 120. Though I think to be state sponsored you need to have a job THEY specifically require? I know that screenprinting is NOT one of these. As you say, would probably have to re-train in something else. Question is..what????! I dont think I could do a job I really didnt like just on the hope I may be able to emigrate. Ive been at home for years with the kids(7) 7 years that is...not 7 kids!! I find it hard to imagine myself getting back out in the world, let alone learning something COMPLETELY different!
